So I made a thread about one promising British singer yesterday (Little Boots) and I thought I should make a thread on her closest counterpart, the (almost) equally as exciting La Roux, who also peaked high in the BBC Sound of 2009 Poll. Released June 15th. Album Cover: Almost iconic looking. Track Listing: 01. In For The Kill 02. Tigerlily 03. Quicksand 04. Bulletproof 05. Colourless Colour 06. I'm Not Your Toy 07. Cover Your Eyes 08. As If By Magic 09. Fascination 10. Reflections Are Protections 11. Armour Love 12. Growing Pains (UK bonus track) First single, In For The Kill. Already Top 10 in the UK and looking to rise into the Top 5 this week: Other songs here: www.myspace.com/larouxukHer voice can be viewed as a little shrill though, which you may find off putting.

YAY MORE HIPSTER MUSIC. Little Boots is slightly better in my book. I'm making the most accessible hipster/pop threads possible so people will actually reply.

I'm not surprised, she's been quite well known for nearly a year now in the tastemaking blogosphere.

I'm a closet hipster. I liked The Kills wayyy before Scott did. Scott jumped on the hipster train because he's in love with Oscillations/Colleen

And I purposely project my overt gayness with Heidi & Miley & Britney & Tisdale, it diverts people from staring at me when I go buy the new Robyn album or the Goldfrapp CD

It's not hipster music LOL. This could very well be a #1 hit, the way it's climbing. She's becoming very mainstream now, certainly not just played in "hipster circles" anymore.

^^^ How is this "hipster" music? this was directed to their comment to lady gaga comment/girl comments. Also I'm listening to "Kill" and it seems pretty catchy. The instrumental seems a bit repetative, imo...But I will def check their new album out when it comes out.

God, La Roux is annoying me with that. I mean it's funny what she said about Gaga but her whole attitude towards pop music is actually eerily similar to Gaga - both equally pretentious, and equally flawed. I do like La Roux's music, but as a person she's really off putting.
Firstly she has no right to cry about the state of vocals in today's pop music, when many many people think she sounds like a screeching cat. To be quite honest she probably has a worse voice than Lady Gaga. Secondly by critisizing "manufactured" pop music, as a pop artist she is completely missing the very point of pop music - yes, it's supposed to be manufactured and vocal talent shouldn't matter one bit; snobery has no place and artistic merit doesn't matter, and therefore Elly actually falls flat on her face. And that's not even to mention the incredibly hypocrisy of slamming manufactured artists, when she herself is an manufactured as pop stars come! Why, La Roux was doing piano music (like Lady Gaga) before a big label told her that electro-synth music was in, and to completely re-style herself in a striking androgynous image for success (a bit like Gaga's once again) For someone who is just as formulaic as the Saturdays (but in a way to earn "indie credibility" through an 80s revival style (which may I say is nothing new)) she has no right to spew this pretentious crap: but then ironically it's probably devised by the label, to increase controversy for success.
I just hate these new pop stars, who think they're bringing in a second coming to music, through ridiculous avant-garde styling, and "edgy" synths, while dissing all other music for being "manufactured": when they completely misunderstand the very nature of the music they're making. I at least like La Roux's music; but her awful attitude is so offputting.

For real.
The Saturdays > La Roux
I mean I like her music but I agree with the aspect that all these pop stars coming out of the woodwork using these 80s influenced techno rhythms are acting like they're a breath of fresh air when in reality they'll be stale in months.
