#91-100#91: Taking Over Me by LawsonLawson dared to be different in the UK, a boyband full of hot young men---who play their own instruments and write their own songs. Taking Over Me, their second single, a song full of sweet harmonies, is pop rock heaven. #92: Crush On You by NeroThe UK's reigning champs of dubstep unleashed their 5th single and while it was not commercially successful, it reigned in the nightclubs with its hauntingly squeaky vocals and the music video is a modern day The Craft. #93: She's So Mean by Matchbox TwentyReturning to the scene after Rob Thomas's mediocre solo career and 3 years apart, Matchbox Twenty returned with She's So Mean, a sly attempt at capturing their glory days, and for the most part, it worked. #94: Give Your Heart a Break by Demi LovatoDisney's second most notorious badgirl finally got herself a big hit in the mainstream with Give Your Heart a Break, too bad it never felt as big as it actually was. #95: Birthday Cake by Rihanna & Chris BrownIt was the song that sent shockwaves in the world and announced the return of a Modern Day Ike & Tina. Birthday Cake was what we all wanted, in the worst way. #96: End of the Line by Sleigh BellsEnd of the Line is Sleigh Bells' Derek Miller's poignant send off to his father, who he never had a real relationship with. It comes off as one of the most beautiful songs of 2012. #97: All Night Longer by Samy Adams[/u] Every year we get the white boy wasted anthem and in 2012 Sammy Adams' All Night Longer fit that bill. Well, at least he'll be vaguely remember for something. #98: Pound the Alarm by Nicki MinajNicki Minaj took a lot of heat in 2012 for trying to cater to both her Urban and Pop audiences, Pound the Alarm served as the perfect end of the summer single and as a reminder why Nicki Minaj is a better rapper than she is brainless pop star. #99: Live While We're Young by One DirectionThe UK's most successful import since the Spice Girls a decade earlier, One Direction launched their second album with Live While We're Young with a song that signaled they were both sexually mature and stuck in a rut sonically. #100: Summertime Sadness by Lana Del ReyLana Del Rey took the music scene by storm with her gorgeous songs with depressing subjects, burning through singles like I burn through toilet paper after I eat Taco Bell, Summertime Sadness was the perfect song to end summer, if you met a crush or if your names are Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albums of the Year#10: Magic Hour by Scissor SistersHighlights: Only the Horses, Let's Have a Kiki, Baby Come Home, The Secret Life of Letters In 2004, the Scissor Sisters crash landed on the US pop market with their infectious anthem "Take Your Mama" and the music scene took notice. Developing a cult following over the years, the Scissor Sisters have maintained to be a minstay in the dance pop genre. On their latest, and what may be their very last, album, they prove they've still got it. With the summer hit that rocked the gay clubs and every nauseating episode of Wendy Williams, "Let's Have a Kiki" proved the Scissor Sisters were still as relevant today as they were 8 years ago.

I love "Give Your Heart A Break", "Birthday Cake", "Pound the Alarm" and "Summertime Sadness". Magic Hour is a pretty good album.

It's great to see "She's So Mean" making your top 100, and it comes as a surprise to me. I wouldn't call Rob's solo career mediocre, but that's just me. I also like "End of the Line" and "Give Your Heart A Break," and "Crush On You" is hilarious.

#81-90#81: Starships by Nicki MinajNicki Minaj's second entry on the year end chart comes her pop de resistance, her infectious summer anthem, Starships. The song's incendiary chorus almost drags this song down but somehow Nicki's mindless verses keep the listener addicted. #82: Boyfriend by Justin BieberJustin Bieber has widely become a teen phenomenon, seemingly unphased by the introduction of One Direction to the tween heartthrob genre. In 2012, he launched his 3rd album, Believe, with the infectious single Boyfriend. Its the best song of 2012 to feature a Buzz Lightyear reference in the same song as fondue. #83: Bad For Me by Megan & LizTwin duo Megan & Liz came onto the block rather tepidly, but with their infectious first single Bad For Me, they showed they truly had real pop potential. Long were the days of the guitar wielding pop chanteuse's, but with Megan & Liz cracking the top 40, more singer songwriters can make the claim they still hold the power. #84: Get Low by Waka Flocka F/Nicki Minaj, Tyga & Flo RidaIn 2011, Waka Flocka seemed like a real contender for hottest new rapper with a string of hits, but now on recollection, and with the recent rise of popularity in 2 Chainz, it seems Waka served nothing more than to hold the ratchet sensibilities his audience loved him for. On Get Low, he serves as nothing more but an idiot shouting 'Waka' repeatedly, while Nicki Minaj & Tyga take him to town. Should've just been a Nicki Minaj solo track, would've had more mass appeal easily. #85: Mercy by Kanye West F/Big Sean, Pusha T & 2 ChainzOn Mercy, arguably one of the best hip hop tracks of 2012, Kanye West teams up with two of his G.O.O.D. Music proteges and 2 Chainz, and slays the competition. Combined with the Bollywood reminiscent chorus, the song seeps into your brain until your running around asking girls to give you hand jibbers in your Lambor---Toyota Camry. #86: Oath by Cher Lloyd F/Becky GThe UK launched several big names in the US and the one who showed a lot of promise was Cher Lloyd. Launched with highly addictive pop single Want U Back and first week album sales of 40,000+, Cher seemed to have all of the potential in the world to take the Pop game by storm----and then she released her second single, Oath. A catchy Dr. Luke production that served nothing more than to prop up his protege Becky G. Such a shame. #87: Goin In' by Jennifer Lopez F/Lil' JonLet it be known that while Jennifer Lopez may be in her mid 40's, she still outperforms her younger competitors with ease and in 2012, she proved that her music taste far exceeded her youngers as well. On Goin' In, Jennifer Lopez, with the assistance of YEAHHHHHH!!!!---I mean, Lil Jon, sounds better than ever and provides danceable material that will rock the clubs for years. #88: 50 Ways to Say Goodbye by TrainOh how I have tried to ignore Train for the years, Hey Soul Sister was one of the worst things I have ever heard. But on 50 Ways to Say Goodbye, they managed to seep their way into my ear and that's the last I'll say of that. #89: Glamazon by RuPaulRuPaul has long been a mainstay fixture in the LGBT community since the early 90s, with elaborate costumes, a sickening laugh and shade level that many stand in awe of. In 2012, RuPaul launched her most successful season of her show, RuPaul's Drag Race, and her album Glamazon and single of the same name, launched her back into the Top 200 on Billboard, something she hasn't done since the late 90s. #90: I Heart You by Toni BraxtonToni Braxton has had her share of past tribulations, bankruptcy and divorce to name, but she's also provided us with great R&B Pop over the years. After the success of her families WE reality TV show, Toni looked to relaunch her singing career. On I Heart You, Toni managed to combine the latest dance trends and her old school R&B. ----------------------------------------------- Albums of the Year9. "Warrior" by Ke$haHighlights: Die Young, Thinking of You, Wonderland, Crazy Kids, Gold Trans Am A sophomore follow up is the all but true test if you can lest in the music industry after a wildly successful debut, and while many would consider the 8 track EP Cannibal a second album, I consider it a mere extension of the Animal era, and Ke$ha delivers the most solid pop album of 2012 with Warrior. When describing her new album, Ke$ha said it was her distinct fratboy party pop sound with rock elements added in, and while those elements are bound to be hidden on the album they pop out. First two singles, "Die Young" and "C'Mon", beckon the party pop that Ke$ha is widely known for. On "Dirty Love", the rock elements come in, almost seemingly transparent behind the Dr. Luke pop production, with rock icon Iggy Pop at the helm with Ke$ha. Only these two dirtballs could make an addictive rock pop anthem. The first highlight of this album is "Gold Trans Am". Def Leppard ruled strip clubs with 'Pour Some Sugar on Me", and in 2012, Ke$ha launched the more updated version of the perfect stripper anthem. "Come on climb into my golden cockpit/love you till you're seeing stars and stripes/burning rubber on the southern highway/gonna take you for a freedom ride/Wam! Bam! Thank You Man! Get inside my f**king Gold Trans Am!" wails over the Sugar seeming melody with ease and pulls the listener in for stripper pole lessons. The real album's highlight is in "Thinking of You". Barring the Gold Trans Am shout out in the first verse, the song displays more emotion than any other Ke$ha on this record, while still retaining that classic sound. On previous efforts, "Hungover" and "The Harold Song", Ke$ha managed to portray raw emotion over breakups and love lost with ease, but it wasn't until 'Thinking of You' that she did it in an upbeat way. "I heard our song on the radio/and i see your face everywhere I go/I thought I'd call just to let you know I been thinking of you now/but now MY songs on the radio/and you see my face everywhere you go/i thought i'd call just to let you know/I ain't thinking of you". Indeed Ke$ha, indeed.

#71-80#71: Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye & KimbraIn 2012, there was no other more overplayed song than Gotye's magnum opus about an ex, Somebody That I Used to Know. With the simple xylophone and guitar line, Gotye managed to do in one song that Taylor Swift has tried so hard to do her whole career: write an effective breakup song with real emotion. #72: Timebomb by Kylie MinogueKylie Minogue has long been the queen of dance pop music, whether or not she received the credit for it, Kylie has always stayed ahead of the curve. On Timebomb, Kylie proved once again she still had it and she still does it better. #73: Standing In The Dark by LawsonLawson lead singer Andy Brown wrote his bands entire debut album about his relationship and inevitable breakup with UK girlgroup The Saturdays member Mollie King. On Standing In the Dark, Andy wrote the most emotional breakup anthems and all he did was see her on a gossip chatshow. #74: Radioactive by Imagine DragonsImagine Dragons boomed into the music scene with their irresistible brand of indie folk pop mixed with both rock and industrial elements and audiences loved them for it. On second single Radioactive, Imagine Dragons unleashed their piece de resistance, a heavy song about waking up and feeling more powerful than ever. #75: Chasing the Sun by The WantedThough Glad You Came may be their big 2012 hit, Chasing the Sun proved that The Wanted made all the party jams one needed, because One Direction sure as hell wasn't delivering that. #76: Mean Girls by Rachel CrowIn 2012, Rachel Crow competed on the US edition of The X Factor and she was personally victimized by Nicole Scherzinger. She got her revenge though, writing the most honest and brutal anti-bullying anthem ever. I'M JUST GONNA COMB YOU OUTTA MY CURLS SHERZ! #77: Ride by Lana Del ReyOn Ride, Lana Del Rey writes about a woman on the long haul, with no real goals in life, just to sing and be with her gold daddy, but, when that chorus hits, she all but begs you to pull her out of her life. And that, is where Lana truly shows the pain in her writing. #78: Thinkin' Bout You by Frank OceanFrank Ocean and his album Channel Orange became the most overhyped album and artist of 2012, but for good reason. On Thinkin' Bout You, Frank reflects on a past relationship with a love and the raw pain he exudes in each word of his delivery, is just mystifying. #79: Payphone by Maroon 5Maroon 5 came off a high with Moves Like Jagger, and with their latest album Overexposed, they were launched back into the spotlight that they have lacked since their debut. Payphone, the first single, washes away the fairytales of love and treats them with the truth. #80: This Little Girl by Cady GrovesThe most absurd pop song of 2012 is Cady Groves' This Little Girl. She catches her boyfriend cheating and then she murders him. Did I mention she's 16? Bar those facts, the chorus stays in your ear, because you hurt her. -------------------------------------- Albums of the Year#8: Ten [EP] by Girls AloudHighlights: On the Metro, Something New, Every Now & Then Though technically its a greatest hits, the 4 news songs that make up the immaculate returns of the greatest girl group to see the UK's shores (sorry Spice Girls) are ostensibly more enamoring to the pop climate than their previous back catalog suggests, but oh boy, is it better than anything currently on the radio. The first single signals a take back on the Pop world. In "Something New", the quintet from England launches an attack on their lessors and with sound. "We're the leaders of the pack, you better watch your back" slams into your ear and creates a mindwarp into pop bliss for 3 minutes and 21 seconds. The return was announced and the extra 3 songs that were given to the world, caused an uproar. On the DJ Fresh produced "On the Metro", the girls moan over a fierce techno rhythm about seeing that dream guy at the club and having to leave him without much more than a first name. Nadine's drawl combined with Cheryl and Kimberley's harmonies, prove to be a rare combination that pulls one in. If only the reunion could last a little while longer....

#61-70#61: Hurricane by MS MRNew York Duo MS MR took the music scene quitely in 2012 with their debut EP The Candy Bar Creep Show. On Hurricane, their most intimate and tortured song, speaks to the volumes of their talent. The song is a elegant and regal telling of the inner workings of the souls depraved mind. #62: Give Me All Your Luvin' by Madonna F/Nicki Minaj & M.I.A.Madonna has had a long and steadfast career spanning almost 30+ years and in that time Madonna has managed to reinvent herself continuously over the years. In 2012, she headlined the Super Bowl and released her latest album MDNA, which proved Madonna was at a confused crossroads in life. On the first single, Madonna deliver basic pop filler drivel, and with the help of Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., she managed to squeak out a tiny hit. #63: I Won't Give Up by Jason MrazJason Mraz has had a long storied career, he's been the king of meaningful acoustic guitar pop for years and on his latest single, I Won't Give Up, much like the song says, his reign just won't let up. The song almost seemed to eclipse past #1 hit I'm Yours without being anywhere as big, it just stuck around for 6 months on radio and was hammered into existence. #64: Never Let Me Go by Florence + The MachineOh Florence + the Machine, chart darlings and perfect pop alt heaven. On Never Let Me Go, Florence takes us to church in what is one of the most beautiful lovelost ballads of the year. #65: F*ck You Betta by Neon HitchThe song of 2012 dedicated to the Mistresses of the world! Neon Hitch struck my attention with her insatiable song "Bad Dog", but it was on F*ck You Betta, that Neon Hitch rose to "better than average popstar". "She's prettier than I'll ever be/got yourself a beauty queen/but there's something I gotta say/She can love you good, but I can f*ck you betta!". Indeed, Neon Hitch, indeed. #66: Birthday Song by 2 Chainz & Kanye West2 Chainz took the rap world by storm in 2012, his straightforward ratchet approach to the genre is what made many fall in love. On the Kanye West assisted Birthday Song, 2 Chainz treats us to the booty shaking anthem of the year. It features such masterful lines as, "I'm in the kitchen, yams everywhere", "She got a big booty, so I call her big booty" and "Bad bitch contest you in first place", how can one resist? #67: Dark Side by Kelly ClarksonKelly Clarkson had a pretty awesome 2012. On 3rd single Dark Side, Kelly sings about the intense inner struggle with oneself in a relationship. We've all got a dark side, can you love me, can you love mine? It's almost too raw for words. #68: Put It Down by Brandy F/Chris BrownBrandy has forever been trying to mimic the career she had in the late 90s/early 2000's, and in 2012, she had a glimpse of what could be. Chris Brown rapped over a slick beat and helped Brandy get her first Top 10 hit in years. Though one can only assume she got the hit the same way Kelly Rowland manager to get a hit in 2011. #69: I Fink U Freeky by Die AntwoordThe music scene has never seen a more unique and unusual artist to come our way than we have Die Antwoord. The South African duo confused many with their dark, twisted, horror themes in their debut music video for I Fink U Freeky. Yolandi is submerged in a pool of black water while singing the chorus, and Ninja raps over the slick production while delinquents jam out. #70: Dancin' Away With My Heart by Lady AntebellumCountry trio Lady Antebellum knows how to write a love song almost as well as they know how to harmonize in perfect time. They have longed tried to replicate their previous success with Need You Now and on their 3rd single off their latest album, Dancin' Away With My Heart, they managed to almost come close. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Albums of the Year#7: Milo Greene by Milo GreeneHighlights: Autumn Tree, 1957, Perfectly Aligned, Don't You Give Up On Me In 2012, the mainstream music market started to take notice of the up and coming folk indie music. The Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, and Mumford & Sons all rose to the ranks and became mainstream artists with a string of his to back them up. Back in the foreground lies Milo Greene, a band from Los Angeles whose debut self titled album came out in the summer relatively under the radar. The difference between Milo and their contemporaries is one simple thing: their debut album is one of the strongest folk efforts to come from the genre in a very long while. Where "Ho Hey", "Little Talks" and "Little Lion Man" came the big sounding first singles, "1957" seems all relatively quiet and let's the pure music shine through and packs more emotion in its 3 minutes than its equals do. On "Perfectly Aligned", sole female vocalist Marlana Sheetz belts out a whole 6 lines throughout the entire song but the emotion that is ebb and flow throughout those 3 minutes, combined with the deliciously crisp ever mounting production, is something of beauty and to behold. The albums clear standout track is "Autumn Tree". A haunting ballad about death and lost love, rips into the listeners soul so angelically, that one can only wonder what else this band can do in the future, and if they will ever receive the mainstream praise so deserved upon them.

I find it funny that in such a "trashy" set, you randomly have a couple of heartfelt ballads in there. The clashing between the commentaries makes it even more entertaining.

#51-60#51: Red Bottoms (Long Heels) by TrinaTrina has been in the rap game for 14 years now and she still remains one of the most consistent and relevant female rappers that there ever has been. In 2012, she left the Slip N Slide family and teamed up with Rick Ross, signing to his Maybach Music Group. On Red Bottoms, we get classic Trina, a sexy seductive voice spitting her awesome flow all while bouncing all over a slick danceable beat. #52: When She Was Mine by LawsonOn When She Was Mine, the introduction to UK band Lawson, we learn of Andy's breakup with his ex and how life truly was easier with her by his side. You'd expect something like this to come from Taylor Swift. #53: How We Do by Rita OraRita Ora was pegged to be Rihanna's replacement. She fit the bill: gorgeous, sultry voice and could write pop hits as addictive as Riri. On How We Do, Rita delivers the party anthem of 2012. #54: Gucci This (Gucci That) by The OMG GirlzGirlgroups continuously come and go in the music market, especially Urban ones. When you have T.I. backing you up and his stepdaughter in the group though, things may just go right. On The OMG Girlz first mainstream single, Gucci This (Gucci That), we are introduced to their sinful harmonies and real talent. #55: Animal by Kristina Maria F/JC ChasezI've been known to bash Canadian artist: Nickelback, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne; the list goes on. In 2012, relatively unknown Kristina Maria became a fire in the blogosphere for the wrong reasons. Her music video for Animal was a blatant rip off Britney's I'm a Slave 4 U, but behind that video was a catchy pop tune with a chorus that left an earworm of annoying proportions. #56: You Bring Me Joy by Amelia LilyWhen Amelia Lily finished 3rd on the last series of X Factor, many expected her to go the route of Kelly Clarkson and release rock tinged pop addiction. Instead she surprised us all and signed with Xenomania and gave us one of the most addictive pop singles of 2012, in You Bring Me Joy. #57: I Love Dem Strippers by 2 Chainz F/Nicki Minaj2 Chainz? Check. Nicki Minaj? Check. Addictive song about being in the Strip Club? Check. I Love Dem Strippers marked all the hip hop cliches and still managed to be one of the highlights of the genre in 2012. #58: This Kiss by Carly Rae JepsenCarly Rae Jepsen had quite a huge 2012, she released the song of the summer in Call Me Maybe, teamed up with Owl City and had another huge summer hit with Good Time and then moved on to This Kiss. The best things thats ever come from anyone in LMFAO and also sounds like something Madonna would if she came out in 2012. #59: Disaster by JoJoJoJo has had a long storied Pop career rife with issues, and it continued in 2011/2012. She released Disaster, which sounded like her previous first singles, but felt mature and grown up. Too bad she's stuck on a shit label. #60: Joy & Pain by Chris Richardson F/TygaAmerican Idol Season 6 alum Chris Richardson is probably the last person you'd expect to sign to Lil Wayne's Cash Money imprint, but in 2012 he did, and finally got the tracks moving on his long awaited debut album. Teaming up with labelmate Tyga on Joy & Pain, Chris unleashes his Justin Timberlake singing voice and his proven talent to write one of the catchiest pop singles in recent memory. Too bad Cher Lloyd jacked it.... ------------------------------------------------------------ Albums of the Year#6: Fantasea (mixtape) by Azealia BanksHighlights: F*ck Up the Fun, Luxury, Esta Noche, Atlantis Azealia Banks stormed onto the scene, becoming the instant hipster's hip hop darling. The beats ferocious, the flow sick, the styling bright and vibrant. After she dropped 4-track EP 1991, Azealia launched the mixtape "Fantasea" and cemented her status as hip-hop's next great hope for female rap to be resurrected. Where Nicki Minaj opened the door and gave us the general idea that female rap could be good again, Azealia comes through that door with an AK-47 of fire, sass, wite and overall domination. "Esta Noche" samples Montell Jordan's 'Love for the Sake of Love', and its one of the sickest uses of a sample I've heard to date. While more straightforward in sections, the use of the various elements of the production elevates the song to an almost highlight. Azealia turns army major on 'F*ck Up the Fun', and her flow over the military drum beat cuts deep and slays through 2 1/2 minutes of anger, rage, and cocky confidence that many lack today. Azealia makes you believe, in less than an hour, that she is the next great thing to come from the rap game and with her debut album due in Q1 of 2013, you may just succumb to Azealia's overall perfection.

#41-50#41: Apparition by Frank + DerolEveryone in the Cyrus family seems to have subverse musical talents: Billy Ray was a country star, Trace fronted Metro Station and we all know Miley is a formidable pop diva with a mind of her own. The next to step out on her musical ventures is Brandi Cyrus, along with friend Codi Caraco, they released their first self titled EP and on Apparition, the girls showcased their ethereal harmonies and slick production skills. #42: Brokenhearted by KarminYoutube duo Karmin broke into the Pop world after their cover of Chris Brown's Look at Me Now went viral and got them onto every possible chat show possible. On their first single Brokenhearted, all they needed was a Dr. Luke esque production to really let their magic shine. #43: Touch Me by Katharine McPheeKatharine McPhee has had a diminished past with the mainstream music public, virtually becoming Mandy Moore in a shorter timeframe. On the promotional single from her hit show Smash, Touch Me proved that if Katharine teams up with the right people, she can create formidable pop heaven. #44: Angels by The xxThe xx burst into the British music scene quite fast. They won the much coveted Mercury prize and with their debut self titled album they showed real promise. On the first single from their second album Coexist, Angels is the Valentine you wish would've came around when you really needed it. #45: Wanted by Hunter HayesHunter Hayes rose to fame much like Taylor Swift did when she debuted: with slick melodies, a charming smile and beautiful songs about love and heartbreak. On Wanted, Hunter Hayes takes the One Direction route, but, he does it with class and true meaning behind it. #46: Liquorice by Azealia BanksNY native Azealia Banks took the rap game by storm with her slick, fast flow and stylized approach to the genre. On Liquorice, she proudly proclaims "I'm the liquorice bitch, looking for these n*ggas if these n*ggas is rich" and has no shame in her swag. #47: Stupid Hoe by Nicki MinajNicki Minaj spent most of 2012 continuously fighting off Lil Kim's useless disses that she started in 2011 and carried over into most of 2012. On Stupid Hoe, she takes a silly approach to her diss game and in the meanwhile kills Lil Kim. #48: Tongue Tied by GrouploveAn Apple commercial can really launch a career nowadays. All it took was one iPhone ad to shove Grouplove into the mainstream. On the pervasively catchy Tongue Tied, they created the alternative party jam of the year and scored a major hit. #49: A Thousand Years by Christina PerriThe Twilight franchise is a major cash cow and their strongest points is always their soundtrack releases. When Breaking Dawn Part 1 was released, the focal point of the film was Bella and Edwards wedding. Christina Perri crafted the love song to end all love songs on a A Thousand Years. #50: Breath of Life by Floence + the MachineFlorence + the Machine is the go to band when you want epic sounding songs. The producers of Snow White & the Huntsman found this to be a nobrainer and on Breath of Life, the slow build feels like the listener is going into battle with itself, all searching for self appreciation. ---------------------------------------------------------- Albums of the Year#5: Electra Heart by Marina & the DiamondsHighlights: Primadonna, Lies, Starring Role, Hypocrates, How to be a Heartbreaker, Homewrecker, Sex Yeah In 2010, Marina & the Diamonds launched with a more generic introduction to her sound than one would've liked . Instinctive, gorgeous harmonies, off the wall pop tracks and more subdued vocals drew people into her charm. On "Electra Heart", she throws those all out the window, throws on a blonde wig and channel's an alter ego to rival Sasha Fierce. The album reads almost like an indictment against the manufactured pop industry, that thismore indie girl can assume a fake, bubblegum alter ego and outdo the compeition without even trying. Songs like "Primadonna", "How to be a Heartbreaker" and "Radioactive, sound like what spend multiple weeks atop the Pop chart with ease. Quasi ballads like "Starring Role" and "Lies" read effortless and more encapulating than the lovelorn ballads of Marina's contemporaries. Rihanna, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson would murder for songs like these. Marina brings you back to her endgame and reminds you who she is at the core, with songs like "Hypocrates" and "Teen Idle", sounding like album tracks left off her debut, but far superior than anything else on the album. Crafted with the idea to show how easy it truly is to become a brainless pop star, Marina navigated the channels with ease and launched an album that one could look back on and wonder, "why hasn't -insert your fave here- made something this great"? And you will keep on wondering that exact sentiment for a very long time after you listen to Electra Heart.

Nice to see "Broken Hearted" ranking...I wasn't into it during its chart run but it has grown on me considerably since then. "A Thousand Years" had a strong 1998 type vibe to it and was a minor hit on my chart...and you can never go wrong with "Stupid Hoe."

It's nice to see "Electra Heart" as your #5 album of the year. I'd easily rank it as my favorite. It's cool that we both ranked "Wanted" at #45 on both of our year end charts. I'm a little shocked to see Brokenhearted miss the top 40 and I love that you charted JoJo's "Disaster".

#31-40#31: The Boys by Nicki Minaj F/CassieNicki Minaj had a long year with music. She released pop singles, she released urban singles, all to tepid response. When she re-released Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Reup, she chose the Cassie assisted The Boys to lead. It was catchy enough and had some random Nicki lyrics, but a youtube cartoon parody helped elevate this song to #1 on my chart. #32: 30 Minute Love Affair by Paloma FaithPaloma's second single off her sophomore album Fall to Grace, proved that even the shortest relationships have lasting affects. On 30 Minute Love Affair, Paloma sings with such emotion over a man she so shortly loved. #33: Fatty Boom Boom by Die AntwoordControversy struck South African duo when Lady Gaga asked them to open for her on select dates of her Born This Way Ball, they turned her down and said they wouldn't conform to her mainstream conformist ideas. They further retaliated in their music video for Fatty Boom Boom, depicting her as a woman who's crotch is infested with shellfish and a racist. This was all overlooked by the songs sick production and Yolandi's way to get her screechy voice in your head. YIPPIE KI YAY MUTHAFUCCA. #34: Pontoon by Little Big TownLittle Big Town has had a long history at country radio and they've never really risen to superstardom. On their smash summer single Pontoon, they rose so quickly that it almost felt short lived, but a song that features the phrase "Mmmm Motorboatin" didn't leave the airwaves fast at all, or our ears. #35: R.I.P. by Rita Ora F/Tinie TempahRita Ora burst into the UK music scene on a club track and was pegged as the new Rihanna. She took a different route and delivered the years edgiest pop single. On R.I.P. she seductively raps over a slick production, chants on the self affirmed chorus, and with the help of the UK's best rapper Tinie Tempah, she knocked the first single out of the park. #36: DNA by Little MixLittle Mix rose to fame quickly in the UK as fan favorites on the X Factor and this was further cemented with their win, the first group to ever do so on the UK X Factor. After two #1 singles, they released DNA, a song which blatantly ripped off Katy Perry's E.T., but also managed to be different and was just as catchy, if not more. #37: Next to Me by Emeli SandeEmeli Sande has had the most storied year. She was chosen as BBC's Critics Choice to watch, was runnerup to both the Mercury Prize and BBC's Sound of 2012, made 7 appearances during the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies, and had 4 Top 10 hits and #1 album. On the third single, Next to Me, she enlisted head nodding beats and a gospel choir chorus. Its as heavenly as it sounds. #38: Constant Conversations by Passion PitPassion Pit have become one of the most decisive artists in their genre. On their latest album Gossamer, they expanded their sound to include deeper electronic elements while tackling more deep subjects. On Constant Conversations, lead singer Michael Angelakos beautifully sings a song about witnessing relationships around him dissolve all while he is on an alcohol high. #39: Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) by Kelly ClarksonKelly Clarkson's 2012 started off slow but by summer she had racked up the Since U Been Gone predecessor we had all been waiting for. Stronger is Clarkson's strongest single in ages and had everyone singing the chorus for months after it had peaked. #40: Yet Again by Grizzly BearIndie rock darlings Grizzly Bear released their second album Shields to much critical fanfare. It featured songs that never made the band feel so alive but like no one was ever feeling at home. On Yet Again, Grizzly Bear speaks about being with someone but never really feeling like they're close, more like a desert than a home. ---------------------------------------- Albums of the Year#4: Reign of Terror by Sleigh BellsHighlights: Comeback Kid, True Shred Guitar, Demons, End of the Line, Leader of the Pack In 2009, hipster blogs lit afire when Sleigh Bells dropped their debut album Treats. Their brand of aggressive noise pop took many by surprise but it was met with much appreciation. To truly appreciate their sound, see them live, its a euphoric moment I can only begin to describe. Their live sound only became better with the release of their followup, Reign of Terror. The albums jumpstarter, "True Shred Guitar", mimic their debuts Inifinity Guitar, but on a more explosive level. Its rhythmic, loud and insane. On first single, "Comeback Kid", Allison's voice easily sails over the aggressive punch the song packs. "Demons" is a true highlight of the album, its guitar mixed with synth heavy production is a dream. Allison screams over every song on this album effortlessly and one can find themselves moshing along to the music.

First of all, nice seeing "RIP" getting this recognition. I'm also a fan of "The Boys," and that gif you have chosen is hilarious. ;D And LOL @ "Fatty Boom Boom"...not my idea of a good song, but fun to see it on here.
There are few other songs on here that are okay to me, but nothing I'd go crazy for. As always, good commentary.

#21-30#21: Make It In America by Victoria JusticeIt's almost a given, get a TV show on Disney or Nickelodeon and release music. Victoria Justice fit that bill perfectly. She started on the Jamie Lynn Spears fronted show Zoey 101 and then in 2010 got her very own show, the aptly title Victorious. The first single off the second season soundtrack, Make It In America, is a catchy attempt to recreate Miley Cyrus's Party in the USA, right down to party in the desert music video with American flags waving. #22: Only the Horses by Scissor SistersThe Scissor Sisters were at a turning point in their career. Their last album was a commercial favor even though they had reclaimed their sound. In 2012, they reached out to certified hitmaker Calvin Harris to give them the much needed smash to relaunch their career. Only the Horses lifted them back into the Top 10 and made them a notified pop act again. #23: Primadonna by Marina & the DiamondsMarina & the Diamonds headed into a different direction with their sophomore effort. With Marina playing the role of a doe eyed pop tart, she headed into well known territory. On the lead single Primadonna, she played the role of bratty girl who wanted everything oh so well. #24: Let's Have a Kiki by Scissor SistersAfter Only the Horses gave the Scissor Sisters their big pop hit, people took notice of their latest album. A cult following built under the new single Let's Have a Kiki. Never before had gay culture been so prominent in a song and it became the underground party anthem of Summer 2012. #25: It All Belongs to Me by Monica & BrandyThe Boy is Mine, the boy is mine the boy is mine, etc. Brandy and Monica were the R&B divas that controlled the late 90s and made them their own. They had a storied past of in feuding, but their 1999 duet The Boy is Mine propelled them to superstar fame. In 2012 they teamed back up and on It All Belongs to Me, they put yet another man to shame and their harmonies have never sounded better. #26: 212 by Azealia Banks F/Lazy JayIn late 2011, the world was introduced to Azealia Banks via 212. With a production that was urban but distinctly pop, she spit her rhymes with almost no effort needed and set the blogs on fire. #27: Warzone by The WantedUK group The Wanted controlled the UK's pop market long before One Direction came along and after their arrival they still racked up hits. On their second single off their album Battleground, Warzone was the midtempo ballad that featured R&B influences and proved these boys could test their sound and have their audience agree with them. #28: Beez in the Trap by Nicki Minaj F/2 ChainzNicki Minaj took a lot of flack for having her latest album be half pop and half hip hop. Critics worried she would lose her Urban audience after pandering so far across the aisle. On Beez in the trap, she proved she still had it in her to control the Urban audiences. #29: Elephant by Alexandra BurkeAfter Alexandra Burke won The X Factor, she put out her debut album and racked up a string of 4 number 1 hits. When it came around to her sophomore, the heat was on for her to deliver. On first single Elephant, she chased those dance trends so hard and it paid off, anotherTop 3 hit and it became notable. Too bad the rest of her album campaign didn't. #30: Demons by Sleigh BellsSleigh Bells brand of loud noise pop rock was accustom to their audience, but on Demons they pushed it even farther. Loud guitar lines, heavy drum and bass, Alexis Krauss's loud vocals all contributed to the heavy feel to the song and its overall perfection. ----------------------------------------------------- Albums of the Year#3: A Million Lights by Cheryl ColeHighlights: Call My Name, Ghetto Baby, Sex Den a Mutha, Boys Lie, I Like It When UK supergroup Girls Aloud took their inevitable break, member Cheryl Cole rose to the ranks by becoming the UK's sweetheart, being a judge on the UK X Factor, facing many personal tribulations in her personal life, and then launching a successful solo career, where many called her the UK's Britney Spears. Week in week out, her sweet demeanor charmed millions in the nation, and with her addictive, catchy pop tunes and huge performance productions, the public bought into the Cheryl image. After putting out two solo albums, both met with their fair share of criticism, Cheryl released her 3rd album, the aptly titled A Million Lights, and it seemed the pop diva found her footing. Launching the album on the backs of a monster first single, the Calvin Harris produced 'Call My Name', Cheryl ripped back into the pop mainstream with slick dance moves, a heavily addictive chorus, and easily, the best pop song of 2012. The rest of the album delivered on many a pop front, with 19 brand new tracks on the Soldier Fan edition, showed when Cheryl is delivered the right songs, she can prove her worth in the market saturated with random's. On the Lana Del Rey penned, "Ghetto Baby", Cheryl purrs like a sex kitten in need of a good ravaging, threatening to clock chicks who get in her way. On "Sexy Den a Mutha", she explodes on a chorus expressing how her new boyfriend makes her feel, a song reminiscent of a song that would've fit on Britney Spears's Blackout. On Deluxe Edition track "Boys Lie" and "Screw You", Cheryl calls out her opposite sex and delivers each line with such malice, that the anger in her voice, only shows you how real her anger can really be.

The inclusion of "It All Belongs To Me" made me laugh. ;D That's a funny song that I had forgotten all about. While I'm not really a fan of this set, it has a lot of variety and really reflects what you were all about in 2012.

#11-20#11: Distance by Christina Perri F/Jason MrazThe Queen of Piano power balladry and the King of Acoustic Guitar Pop joined forces for the most beautiful duet of the year. On Distance, Christina Perri sings, always convincingly, about being in love with someone but just at the wrong time. Backed up by Jason Mraz with harmony vocals, the song propels to pop bliss, that middle 8 is glorious and is something to hear. #12: Girl Gone Wild by MadonnaMadonna's latest album MDNA drew critics far and wide. Her first single was seen as far too safe and generic for the queen of pop, a woman who has always pushed boundaries. On the second single Girl Gone Wild, Madonna continued throwing out safe pop material, chasing dance trends, but with the opening monologue of the Act of Contrition, Madonna still proves that she can cause controversy within a pop song. #13: Some Nights by fun.fun. were labeled as a one hit wonder as soon as We Are Young had hit the Pop charts. They battled back, and on their follow up single, Some Nights, they prove they have a future in music. Lead singer Nate Reuss powerfully conveys on the track, that he is a man at a crossroads, wondering what his next move is. #14: Yo-yo by Nicola RobertsAfter Girls Aloud took their hiatus, fiery ginger Nicola Roberts decided to launch her own pop career and labeled it as a more avante garde pop album, and while on certain songs it aimed a little true, it was mainly straightforward pop. On Yo-yo, over a slick piano midtempo with a generic beat, Nicola clings to her boyfriend, wanting an answer for him if they're together, and with her beautiful falsetto tones, she nails it to the wall. #15: National Anthem by Lana Del ReyLana Del Rey released her debut album in late 2011 and left the internet buzzing. After a string of releases, people were left wondering what was next. On National Anthem, Lana uses the guise of American Pride to write a beautiful love song. Only wanting to be someones everything, their musical everything. In the video, she acts as the first lady to A$AP Rocky's President, a modern day Kennedy. #16: Comeback Kid by Sleigh BellsWhen Sleigh Bells set out to record their sophomore effort, they let their fans know it was going to stick to their same sound but with a more aggressive feel and more emotional lyrics. On the lead single, the aptly titled Comeback Kid, Sleigh Bells proved they were the same band we had come to love, but had more facets we had yet to even knew existed. #17: Oh My Goodness by Olly MursAfter he became the runner up on the UK X Factor in 2009, many wondered what would become of Olly. Who knew 3 years later, he'd become the top male vocalist in the nation. He racked up 2 #1 hits on his debut, and when his sophomore album landed, he had another 2 #1 hits. On his 3rd single, Oh My Goodness, he sings about seeing a girl and developing the OMG face. The song features a strong melody, an upbeat production and Olly's oh so smooth vocals that draw the listener in deeper. #18: Titanium by David Guetta & SiaDavid Guetta proved to be a formidable force in the dance genre. His 2nd album Nothing But the Beat proved to be a solid, cohesive vision of dance, combined with addictive features that included Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida and Usher. On Titanium, his piece de resistance, underrated singer songwriter Sia takes control of the songs empowering lyrics, chants them such conviction and control that you can only chant along with her, feeling better for yourself. #19: Think Like a Man by Jennifer Hudson F/Ne-Yo & Rick RossAfter American Idol and winning an Oscar for her role in Dreamgirls, many wondered what area Jennifer Hudson would go into. After pledging herself to her music, Jennifer delivered two solid, wonderful R&B albums, two albums her contemporaries (like Keyshia Cole & Monica) wished they had released. On the single for the film of the same name, Think Like a Man, Jennifer rips through the song with her powerful, soul filled vocals, joined by Ne-Yo and Rick Ross, she continuously proves that she is the voice and face of R&B. Now if only her audience would take notice. #20: Dance Again by Jennifer LopezJennifer Lopez's singing career was hanging by a thread. On the Floor proved to be the song that propelled her back into the limelight and show that she still had. It was a monster of a song and the remaining singles faltered. She went back into the school with RedOne, and the two delivered. Dance Again is a slick pop production that makes the listener only want to get up and dance their asses off as J.Lo instructs them to do. ----------------------------------- Albums of the Year#2: Fall to Grace by Paloma FaithHighlights" Picking Up the Pieces, Just Be, 30 Minute Love Affair, Agony, Freedom The followup to her debut, Paloma Faith stormed back onto the scene with a first single of earth shattering proportions. "Picking Up the Pieces", written by Paloma, the song is a 4 minute battle between Paloma and the other woman who is no longer in the picture, but still haunts Paloma everyday. Combined with songs like "Black & Blue" and "Agony, the album is your age old album dealing with love and breakups. Bare with me here, but its the album Adele had wished 19 or 21 could've been. Not to discredit Adele or her amazing work, but Fall to Grace, is a cohesive album, that tells a story from beginning to end and tells it with so much conviction, that you almost believe its your life being played out in song. In "30 Minute Love Affair", Paloma sings about an indescretion with a man, that as the title suggests, only lasted 30 minutes, but stuck with her forever. Though she describes this love affair is simply falling in love with who he was and no physicality involved, she fell in love with who he was. On "Streets of Glory", the song highlights the bitterness when you love someone but you simply cannot, because of your vast differences, and fantasizing about them being perfect in that fantasy world. The album in its all too short 50 minute length, is a trial of the heart and of all your emotions and its a ride for the soul and one worth taking.
