There are two songs here that I really like: "Comeback Kid" and "Dance Again." Both hit the top 3 on my chart and it's nice to see them ranking so high on your year-end countdown. "Girl Gone Wild" is a solid pop track, even if it does scream desperate to cause controvery.
I strongly dislike "Titanium" and "Some Nights," but this is one set where the good outweighs the bad.

I think we have a professional video editor in the house.

Since YouTube won't let me keep my videos up, stupid copyright, I have to do it the old fashioned way. So without further ado.....

#10: The One That Got Away by Katy PerryPeak: #1 (4 Weeks), 987 plays Katy Perry proved for the third year in a row that she was the top Pop force to be reckoned with. On The One That Got Away, the sixth single from her Teenage Dream era, Katy sang over a simple production, about love lost and how she wishes she could take things back. In another life....

#9: We Run the Night by Havana BrownPeak: #1 (4 weeks), 1,012 spins Every year a song comes along that sets the dance floor on fire. In the past year we suffered through Pitbull and LMFAO, but in 2012 we were given a saving grace. We Run the Night, Havana Brown's club scorcher, set people grooving and everyone shouting out that one line...RUN EM LIKE RUN EM RUN EM WHOOP!

#8: Under the Sun by Cheryl Cole Peak: #1 (2 weeks), 1,200 plays When you ask who the UK's equivalent of Britney Spears is, you will hear the name Cheryl Cole many times. Gorgeous, catchy pop tunes, breathtaking performances, Cheryl has it all. On the second single off her third album A Million Lights, Under the Sun was the coy, playful summer anthem, right down to the highly suggestive and funny, "Go down on me".

#7: 30 Days by The SaturdaysPeak: 1 (1 week), 1,440 plays UK girlgroups are something to be marveled at. The Music market in the UK has always allowed and appreciated the idea of girlgroups and The Saturdays are nothing but brilliant. On 30 Days, the girls chant over a fun pop production, counting down the days until they see their loved ones, and until they get some sex. Obviously.

#6: Part of Me by Katy PerryPeak: #1 (2 weeks), 1,959 When relaunching any successful release, the formula is simple: enticing packaging and a smash hit single. Katy Perry extended her Teenage Dream era into 2012 with the 'Complete Confection' release and capitalized on her divorce from actor Russell Brand with Part of Me. Though the song had leaked 3 years earlier, the updated production and change to the lyrics made the song even more anthemic, raising our fists in the year and stomping it out on the dancefloor.

#5: Bad Girls by M.I.A Peak: #2 (14 weeks), 2,100 plays When M.I.A announced she was releasing new music, the blogs set afire, what came next, was utter brilliance. On Bad Girls, M.I.A. proved she could still set the music scene on fire with a thumping production and exquisite lyrics about Bad Girls doing it oh so much better. On the Danja remixed NARS remix, Missy Elliott and Azealia Banks join M.I.A and both light the song on fire and make it a force to be reckoned with.

#4: Something New by Girls Aloud Peak: #1 (6 weeks), 3,940 plays When Girls Aloud announced they were returning to the music scene, the UK went into a mad frenzy. The gay inhales were of Ursula level maddening, the blog writers were white knuckling waiting for the pop explosion, what came next, was something only miracles are made of. On Something New, Girls Aloud announced their thunderous (albeit short) return to the Pop scene, chanting over the Xenomania production "GO GIRLS GO GO GO! WE GIRLS GONNA RUN THIS SHOW" and did they ever. Over the next 3 minutes and 18 seconds, Girls Aloud singlehandedly made every other UK girl group fear for their careers with the "WE'RE THE LEADERS OF THE PACK, OH YOU BETTER WATCH YOUR BACKS" and with the slick fresh production, proved they still had it in them to be pioneers in the Pop market.

#3: Picking Up the Pieces by Paloma FaithPeak: #2 (9 weeks) 3,011 plays Paloma Faith is the little British ingenue that could. When she burnt onto the scene in 2009 with her debut, her sound was lauded as 'theatrical but never too big a detractor from Paloma's strong voice and her personality that sparkles like a rough diamond'. She was seen as different, with her wild style and booming productions many wondered what would come next. Over the next 2 years, she sat in a record studio, having gone through one of her worst breakups, Paloma put word to pen and poured her heart out. On the first single off her sophomore effort Fall to Grace, "Picking Up the Pieces" is the record Adele wishes she had written for 21. In 4 minutes and 4 seconds, Paloma tells the tale of falling in love with a man who's simply still in love with his ex. You feel every hit and every punch she gives you, and when that middle 8 hits, you are on your knees, begging for clarity, forgiveness, a kleenex to wipe the tears, and self indignation for your own pride. Its the record we had been waiting for and it set the tone for her perfect album.

#2: Wide Awake by Katy PerryPeak: #1 (6 weeks), 4,146 plays No one had a better year than Katy Perry. She racked up her 6th #1 single off her phenom of an album Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, headlined a sold out tour, and launched a wildly successful concert docudrama, Katy Perry: Part of Me. With the good though, comes the bad. She went through an awful divorce that was shown in the film as a huge impasse on her life, but with the bad, comes life lessons. On the final single from her wildly successful era, written for the film, Wide Awake signaled a pop star, who had traveled from the heights of superstardom, to the depths of loneliness, who was so self aware of her own situation that a beautiful song came out of it. On Wide Awake, Katy speaks of falling from cloud 9, and during the thunderous middle 8, speaks of how she is not blind anymore. She was never blind though, just misguided and on Wide Awake, proves that she can come out of it an even stronger person. It was the motivational anthem that we needed in 2012, and even though it wasn't meant that way, it packs a wallop that brings a listener to feel strength, courage and above all, happiness

Albums of the Year #1: Born to Die: The Paradise Edition by Lana Del ReyHighlights: This Is What Makes Us Girls, National Anthem, Video Games, Summertime Sadness, Dark Paradise, Ride, American, Cola When Lana Del Rey launched to the scene, she quickly became one of the most talked about artists of the first half of 2012. Hard to explain, Lana shot onto the scene with "Born to Die" and "Video Games", two pop gems that both drew much fanfare and never more, a dissection between the music community. The chanteuse wrote about love, sex, drugs and all in a monotone voice that pulls you in and captures you from the opening drawl to the closing final key. Songs like "This Is What Makes Us Girls" draws on empowering females to be more like the feminism ideals instead of succumbing to the man they love. "National Anthem", on the other hand, is about being love in the summer and being all that matters to that man. "Summertime Sadness" is like the paradox of the aforementioned Anthem, drawing close a love lost. "Dark Paradise" has Lana dreaming of what could be, in a world where love is gone, and if its worth it or not. Lana encapsulated the music community with her brilliant song writing and the mystery behind her, and her debut album brought forth those emotions perfectly. In November, the album was released, under the appropro "Paradise Edition", and gave us 8 more songs that drew us in even more. "Ride", the first single, is a 5 minute epic of independence, but, both of love and loss. "American" beckons on the LP's 'National Anthem', almost sequel like, of that love and perfect, comparing her man to all things American, like Springsteen and Elvis. "Cola" is worth the purchase alone, with the opening line, "my pussy tastes like pepsi cola", Lana proves that with only one year in the game, she can draw you and make you obsess over her lyrics, Nancy Sinatra like voice, and stunning productions.

THE #1 SONG OF 2012 is.....#1: Call My Name by Cheryl ColePeak: #1 (10 weeks), 7,000 plays In 2012, only one pop diva truly mattered....and her name was Cheryl Cole. On April 20th at exactly 801am, Cheryl Cole visited the BBC Radio 1 studios, set to debut her thunderous first single of her new album A Million Lights. All we knew was the title, Call My Name, and it was produced by Calvin Harris. It was set out to be a song of dance proportions, but we didn't know how big. As Cheryl spoke the name and said "here it is", ears were dying in anticipation....then those small, but so effective square synths dropped----and then the chimes and the piano and then the bass drop..... In true Calvin Harris fashion, he delivered the quintessential dance anthem of 2012 and left an earworm so large, you were only wanting to hear it more and more. Cheryl commands the track with such presence, her heavily layered chorus vocals, to the the oh so sexual, sly pur on the verses, you believe every conviction. While she may pass it off as simple dance fluff, the lyrics tell a bit of a S&M theme, of cat and mouse, and of screaming out her name. I would chant Cheryl's name for years if she told me to. And that was in itself, the effectiveness to the song. It debuted at #1 with 980 plays in a 24 hour period of chart life, stayed there for 10 weeks and has gone on to now get over 8,000 plays total since its release. When you have a monster single on your hand, you release it.....and then you have fans every calling your name. The #1 of 2012....Call My Name by Cheryl Cole
