What are your methods in calculating the places for the year-end chart?
I'm planning to make one, and i'll have to take account of the inverse-point system, but also playcounts and my general opinion about the song throughout the year. Therefore, songs which did not chart can also chart in the year-end if it has a higher playcount than the songs that charted (which there are alot in my case). Also planning to cut the points to half for songs which were hits last year, since big hits on my chart take ages to exit. I'll also give a slight advantage on crossover songs which had its peak at about December o7 - January o8 period. I'll be probably doing a Top 500 with the 400 being revealed earlier and the Top 100 revealed in tens or by a guessing game. If it will be a guessing game, the year which the song/single was released would be given with the clue.
The cut-off point for my chart will be the last week of December since I did not take account of Dec o7, and I would want the period of a "year"end chart to be a full year.

Well, since this year I had a top 10, top 15, top 20 and a top 40 I am just doing #1 gets 40 points, #2 gets 39 points, and so on. Next year since I will always have a top 40, it will be easier to develop a point system and stuff like that, but for this year, I am just keeping it simple. Songs with ties/close, I will adjust to what I liked more, or who spent more weeks on, etc. The last day for charting is December 27th.

I'll be posting my first year-end chart this year. Basically, my number one song gets 75 points, number 2 gets 74, etc., number 75 gets 1 - every week since 12-24-07 (to 12-22-08).
Next year I hope to find a way to use my points system I use to compile my weekly chart for my yearly chart.

I use a weighted point system, kinda like inverse points but with more emphasis on the higher positions. Sample point values from this system:
#1: 150 points #4: 98.5 points #16: 76.5 points #25: 58 points #64: 31 points #100: 10.5 points
I feel that gives the best possible balance between peak and longevity overall.

I don't change my points system because I want to be able to compare all-time hits in an accurate way. My #1 song gets 20 points, and my #10 song gets 11 points (I started with a top 20).
For a brief period, I had a top 30. So some songs got up to 30 points in a week.

I just use an inverse points system. That way, the songs that have had a lot of longevity but not a very high peak still luck out.

Personal Opinion. I don't make weekly charts, plus I like to be able to factor in hindsight.
