How many songs reached #1 on the Active Rock format in 2013? Way too many. Twenty-two, to be exact. An absurd number, right? Not even 2001 had that many songs that felt like #1s. This year was the weakest year in format history in a lot of ways, and I want to take a look at each of these #1 hits. You can check out the list [url=

Been Away Too Long - A leftover from 2012. Soundgarden coming back was a big deal, and while this didn't feel as big as "Born To Rise" it was still fitting as a #1 hit.
Absolute Zero - It spent a week on top in 2012, and another one in early 2013. This really should have peaked at #2.
Heaven Nor Hell - Volbeat has been on fire as of late, and I have no issue with any of their songs hitting #1.
Stand Up - This is the first one I have a BIG problem with. In early 2012, "The Waiting One" peaked at #5. That song, in my mind, had a lot more impact and will get more play as the years go by than this one. This should have peaked in the 6-10 range. The fact it hit #1 is ridiculous.
Hollow - A good lead single for Alice in Chains belongs on top. Probably for more than 2 weeks.
Bones - This was the ultimate sleeper hit. A well-deserved chart-topper.
Freak Like Me - I like it, but it's not half as memorable or important as "I Miss The Misery" which peaked at #2. This should have peaked around #4.
Where Did The Angels Go - So much less impact than songs of theirs that never competed for the #1 spot. It should have peaked in the 6-10 range.
The High Road - I get it. It's the follow-up to a huge hit by a core artist that just broke up. This would have hit #1 in any year, so I can't complain too much.
By Crooked Steps - Not only was it not memorable, but nothing about this song screamed "active" to me. Should have peaked no higher than #4.
Vilify - A well-deserved #1.
The Hangman's Bodycount - One of the few #1s all year that actually felt like somewhat of a big deal.
Stone - It squeezed in a week at #1 when it should have peaked at #2.
Trenches - The second-biggest impact of any active rock track this year IMO. It should have spent more than 3 weeks on top.
Lift Me Up - In a perfect world, this lead single from a core artist featuring a legend should have been a big deal. Instead, it was an example of how irrelevant this format is right now. Should have peaked at #2.
Out Of Time - Perfectly acceptable #1. Should have done better on Alt, but that's another story.
Hail To The King - Easily the track of the year IMO. Should have spent more than 9 weeks on top.
Misery Loves My Company - Now this one should have peaked at #2.
Never Never - Korn finally getting a #1 on a chart was a great moment. Well-deserved.
Lola Montez - I'm cool with it hitting #1.
Battle Born - A good #1 that feels like a bigger deal than the lead single.
Deal With The Devil - Honestly, it feels like a #2 but I won't complain too much about this one.
