Great commentary, Drag! Yoh do a good job of explaining things, which helps me to understand why you like songs such as "One Thing" or "Better Dig Two." It's nice to see you relating to some hard rock lyrics, BTW. ;D

40. Ciara – Sorry“Sorry” really does show off Ciara’s progress as a vocalist. She emits so much passion in this ballad about wanting to rebuild a relationship. You can really feel her sincerity throughout the song and it’s the aspect of the song that really made me love it. 39. Haley Reinhart – Free“Free” has such a nice old school throwback vibe that really compliments Haley’s vocals along with some great lyrics. The lyric that I find the most notable in the song is: “Let it be, let it be just a beautiful memory; anything that starts will have an ending”. This really does emphasize the desire to break free from the relationship and it’s one of the many reasons why this song is great. 38. Cher Lloyd – With Ur Love (feat. Mike Posner)“With Ur Love” was such an infectious summer song for me. It’s filled with repetitive hooks that really show off Cher’s ability to sell you a well crafted pop song. From the “Da da da da dum dum da dum dum” hook in the intro to the “I ain't even here I'm in outer space, like I'm venus your mars in the milky way” section, it oozes with her confident vocals. 37. Beyoncé – Love On TopThis made it to #50 on last year’s year end countdown and it continued its very long run on my playlist throughout the year. Beyoncé’s vocals are absolutely impeccable in the song and the multiple key changes really emphasize her desire to be with the one that puts her love on top. 36. Lana Del Rey – Off to the Races“Off to the Races” is Lana’s highest charting track on the chart for many reasons especially for her cutesy vocals in the chorus. The lyric that’s my personal favorite is: “Because I'm crazy, baby I need you to come here and save me, I'm your little scarlet, starlet singing in the garden, kiss me on my open mouth; ready for you”.

35. Beyoncé– Dance for You“Dance for You” is the epitome of a slow sex urban driven jam. With lyrics such as “Boy look into my eyes, when I'm grinding on you, this is beyond sex; boy I'm high on you, and if it's real then you know how I feel”, the Queen of R&B really puts it out there; she will please her man with her alluring moves. Clocking in over 6 minutes (on the album version), this remains to be one of Beyoncé’s most shocking unofficial radio releases and it’s the passion in her vocals that really make this one of her most adventurous singles to date. 34. The Band Perry – Postcard From ParisKimberly Perry, the lead vocalist really shines on the song and in the video which is one of the many reasons why this is their highest charting track for this year end chart. My favorite lyric in the song is: “But it's the never-knowing that keeps this going and drives me crazy.” 33. Marina & the Diamonds – Power & ControlI am a big fan of the topic of the song; the whole give or take aspect of a relationship makes this song come alive in a very simple but effective way. Lyrically “We give and take a little more, eternal game of tug and war” feels like the whole point of the song, having to constantly compromise in an ongoing relationship. It’s this whole aspect of fighting to get what you want that intrigues me and makes this one of my favorite Marina songs to date. 32. Ellie Goulding – My BloodEllie Goulding really has become one of my favorite current pop artists and this song really does prove how skilled she is as a songwriter. Her unique vocals invoke the dark aspect about having that person that you’re in a relationship sap your blood metaphorically speaking and drain all the love out. It’s a very interesting concept! The most memorable line of the song for me is “Alarms will ring for eternity; the waves will break every chain on me”. 31. Cheryl Cole – Ghetto BabyThis is Cheryl’s highest charting track on this year’s countdown. This Lana Del Rey penned song really has Cheryl putting on a bit of a mask and singing a bit outside of her comfort zone lyrically speaking. The line that really sticks out for me is: “We’re a match made in heaven if they’re gonna talk let ‘em’ if they don’t think we’re good together, baby just forget ‘em”.

30. Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe“Call Me Maybe” was essentially the song of the summer and it clearly has one of the most ingenious pop hooks of the year. Originally off the Curiosity EP and now on her debut album “Kiss”, “Call Me Maybe” is now every girl or guy’s cheesy way of asking someone out on a date. If you’re more curious about Carly Rae Jepsen, stay tuned for another song that she has higher up the countdown. 29. Nicki Minaj – Beez In The Trap (feat. 2 Chainz)This was a guilty summer jam for me. Nicki Minaj really delivered on this and 2 Chainz did his thing with his verse. Nicki’s city name dropping verse is easily one of her best to date and it’s clear as night and day why this ended up being the urban hit on “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded”. 28. Miranda Lambert – Over You“Over You” is a heart wrenching ballad written by the happy country couple (Miranda and Blake) about Blake reliving the death of his older brother. The most powerful line in the song would have to be “It really sinks in, you know, when I see it in stone”. It really puts into perspective the death described and really gives the song its climax. Miranda has one song further up the chart. 27. No Doubt – Settle DownNo Doubt finally returned in the music scene after a long 11 year absence and they did not disappoint. I like that Gwen has kept her more rock influenced vocals intact on this track in particular and it really does fit in nicely with some of their past hits. The “I'm a rough and tough, and nothing's gonna knock this girl down” section was stuck in my head this past summer. Look out for one more song from them later on. 26. JoJo – Disaster“Disaster” managed to break my top 100 countdown last year and further improved its position on this year’s countdown. The section of the song that really gets me every time I listen would have to be: “You shot the bullet, you shot the bullet that killed me, not feeling my heart beat, and now I was dying. I am through it, I-I am through all the agony, and now my eyes are drying, trying, no more crying, lying's just a game. So disaster strikes, and I'm alright cause my love's on his way”. It feels like an explosion of sadness with the realization that the relationship involving the singer ended up being a disaster which really is a very unique way of describing it.

25. P!nk – Blow Me (One Last Kiss)“Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” is that song we all listen to when we had a “shit day”. It’s another catchy uptempo from P!nk and serves its purpose at reminding us why we love Alecia Moore so much. The line that stands out the most for me is: “You will pay for your sins, you'll be sorry my dear; all the lies, all the whys’, will all be crystal clear”. 24. Alexandra Stan – LemonadeAlexandra Stan returns on my year end countdown with a sweet tasty Ace of Base influenced cup of dance paradise. “Lemonade” while not as infectious as “Mr. Saxobeat”, does not fail at getting me in the mood to get up and ride the beat. My favorite lyric would have to be: “Look into the sun, you'll see me and you; cause now you have the perfect view”. 23. Demi Lovato – Give Your Heart A Break“Give Your Heart A Break” really paved the way for some radio success for the former Disney prodigy teen and it really evoked her with a more mature way of looking at a relationship. Vocally it’s top notch and does not fail at cementing her status as a potential pop princess. The lyric that sticks out the most would have to be: “Cause you've been hurt before, I can see it in your eyes; you try to smile it away, some things you can't disguise”. 22. Miranda Lambert – Fastest Girl In TownThe music video for this single really brought the song to life and it made it that much more enjoyable. I feel like Miranda really shines on her uptempos and “Fastest Girl In Town” is no different. She is charming, riveting and a force to be reckon with it comes to being the bad ass country gal that we all love. The line that really defines the song would have to be: “My reputation follows me around, just makes me want to give them more to talk about”. 21. Karmin – Brokenhearted“Brokenhearted” felt like a Katy Perry song with more personality and more charisma, and Karmin succeeded at creating a catchy pop song that never failed to make me sing along whenever it came on. The lyric that sticks out the most for me would have to be “In a daze, going crazy, I can barely think, you're replaying in my brain, find it hard to sleep”.

I wasn't too fond of "Brokenhearted" when it was out, but it sounds really good to me now. "Call Me Maybe," "Settle Down" and "Give Your Heart A Break" all charted on my chart, and "Blow Me" is the only song here that I have anything against. A great set overall.

20. Ellie Goulding – Figure 8“Figure 8” does a good job at incorporating dubstep and is Ellie’s best shot at replicating the pop success she’s had with “Lights”. My favorite line would have to be “I chased your love around a figure 8. I need you more than I can take.” This is Ellie’s highest chart track on this year’s countdown; just for reference, “Lights” made it to #5 on last year’s countdown and probably would have cracked the top 40 this year, but I decided that in order for a song to chart, it would have to have at least 40% of its total points in the particular year’s countdown; therefore “Lights” was ineligible. 19. Nicki Minaj – Va Va Voom“Va Va Voom” feels like a sequel to Nicki’s most successful single “Super Bass” and it does not fail at being equally as catching. This was instantly one of my favorites when “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” originally dropped and I’m glad to see that it had a shot at some radio success. My favorite line would have to be “If-if you're looking for the main attraction; just hold on tight and let me do my dance”. 18. Brandy – Put It Down (feat. Chris Brown)Brandy really came back hard with her lead single and she did not disappoint. The “I’mma put it down, you can fall in love” hook is irresistible and Brandy’s trademark harmonies really give me life throughout the song. I also thought that Chris Brown’s verse was solid, it definitely fits the song. 17. Maroon 5 – Payphone “Payphone” honestly has one of the most ear candy pop choruses of the year. I prefer the radio edit with Adam’s extra verse replacing Wiz Khalifa (I don’t mind his verse but Adam’s is so much better). My favorite lyric would have to be: “If happy ever after did exist,I would still be holding you like this; and all those fairytales are full of it, one more stupid love song I'll be sick”. 16. Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back TogetherTaylor’s transition into a more pop oriented direction was effective at giving us this Avril Lavigne influenced breakup anthem. The lyric that really stands out in the song would have to be: “I used to think that we were forever ever, and I used to say, "never say never". It’s her only charting song on this year’s countdown.

15. Cher Lloyd – Want U BackWhat’s not to love about this? The grunts, the pop hooks, it’s clearly a song made to sing along to while driving in town. Cher sells the song with her personality and lyrically it plays off of Cher’s strengths at selling a well crafted pop hook. The line that really sells it for me would have to be: “You clearly didn't think this through; if what I've been told is true, you'll be crawling back like boo hoo hoo.” 14. Rita Ora – How We Do (Party)I wanna party and bullshit whenever I hear this; it’s clearly my DAF party jam. Rita really does sell the song and it’s honestly that song I want to sing along to when I’m having a good time out at a club or house party. My favorite line would have to be: “So put your arms around me, baby; we're tearing up the town, cause that's just how we do”. 13. No Doubt – Looking HotThe official follow up to “Settle Down” feels like a mix of Gwen’s solo work and No Doubt and I feel like that’s why I adore this song so much. Lyrically it’s very much a “Gwen Stefani” record while sonically, it feels like a No Doubt record. Anyways , Gwen sounds so convincing with her alluring personality in the song. She teases the listener by saying that “I know you wanna stare, you can’t help it and I don’t care” and it gives the song that special flare that makes it among their best songs to date. 12. Carly Rae Jepsen – CuriosityI’m only here for the original EP version of “Curiosity”. I was lucky enough to hear it on the radio here in Canada and I was disappointed at the thought of it being tampered on her “Kiss” record. Well anyways, the leaked video totally slays me and it’s just pure pop perfection in general. I absolutely adore the line: “curiosity will never let me go” since it essentially describes me. 11. Keyshia Cole – Enough Of No Love (feat. Lil Wayne)Keyshia really came back with a vengeance with her lead single and I can say that this is easily her best single since “Heaven Sent”. The production, her vocals and Lil Wayne’s feature all work and really show off the pain in her vocals. At first, I felt like I was listening to something from the “Just Like You” era and that really got me excited for her new album.

It's a very polarizing song, IMO. I used to hate it, but I grew to enjoy it and I think the production is the highlight of "Swagger Jagger".

This set is awesome! It's a great mix of mainstream hits and under-the-radar jams, which I think represents your music taste in 2012 quite accurately. The highlight for me is "How We Do," which was a top 5 hit on my chart. I was waiting to see how high it would be.
I also enjoy the Taylor Swift and Cher Lloyd songs; both were minor hits for me. "Payphone" grew on me considerably in the later parts of 2012 and I really regret not charting it. I'm also pleased to see "Va Va Voom" ranking so high.

10. Christina Aguilera – Your BodyDespite the underperformance, I loved nearly everything about this particular single with the exception of not officially releasing the explicit version. I’m here for f*ck your body, not love your body. But anyways, Christina’s screaming vocals actually add to the song’s sexual nature and really give forth the personality necessary to sell the song. The music video is also among her best to date. The line that always is stuck in my head whenever I hear this would be: “Tonight’s your lucky night, I know you want it”. 9. Marina & the Diamonds – RadioactiveThis is essentially the song that got me interested in Marina. “Radioactive” is about feelings of rejection for a past lover and it really plays on Marina’s strengths at selling a strong pop hook. Her vocals are also so distinctive that they really could not be replicated by anyone else. Whenever I listen to “Radioactive”, I fee like going out in town at night and dancing the night away. My favorite line would have to be “Waiting for the nightfall for my heart to light up. Oh baby I want you to die for, for you to die for my love”.

8. Leona Lewis – GlassheartLeona Lewis made my heart race the first time I heard this track. It’s such a euphoric, entrancing fantastic piece of dance-pop done in all the right ways. This is how dubstep should be incorporated without it sounding tacky and so forced (sorry Taylor). The lyric that really sticks out for me would have to be: “My heart is breaking, it’s made of glass; I guess anything that's good never ever lasts.” 7. P!nk – TryP!nk’s delicate yet powerful vocals really fit the unique production provided by one of the breakout producers this year. The lyrics that really strike a chord with me are: “Ever worried that it might be ruined, and does it make you wanna cry? When you’re out there doing what you’re doing; are you just getting by?” Those lyrics really make me think of my past self and how I had to struggle to get to the point where I’m at. Pink’s vocals really emote the desperation needed to sell the song and lyrically the song is one of the best pop songs of the year.

6. Mariah Carey – Triumphant (Vintage Throwback Mix)Sorry, but I’m only here for dem vocals and Mimi clearly delivers them in the “Vintage Throwback Mix”. I am extremely happy that in this day and age, that Mariah continues to add new vocals to her remixes. It really shows how committed she is to her craft and really emphasizes how great she is at pleasing her fans. The get em hook really is one of the highlights of “Triumphant” and the inspirational theme is what really made me love it after dismissing the original version early on. 5. Kelly Clarkson – Catch My BreathMost of you have already gone through my review in my top 40 Kelly thread, but to reiterate my point, the reflective aspect of the song is what really draws me to this song. I love the production on "Catch My Breath" since it does compliments Kelly’s vocals while maintaining a good rhythmic tempo that really makes it stand out on the radio. No one can hold Miss Clarkson back when she really lets loose in the recording process.

4. Marina & the Diamonds – PrimadonnaBeing a primadonna may be obnoxious and off-putting, but Marina manages to make this archetype a desirable trait in her over the top anthem. I can kind of relate to “Primadonna” in real life since I’ve always had a bit of a dramatic sign and I feel like I can channel it whenever I sing this gem. My favorite lyric would have to be: “I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal though”. 3. Nicki Minaj – StarshipsAs I’ve said so many times before, this was the song that really got me going in the clubs this past summer. The chorus is euphoric and it’s such a great song to shake it, twerk it and sing along to. The “we’re higher than a motherfu*cker” hook in the chorus is probably my favorite aspect of the sing. I personally love both the pop and urban sides of Nicki.
