Despite being slow, mellow and very sad, these two songs were both huge successes in the American mainstream. While there were certainly many hits of this nature during Cyndi Lauper's era, "Time After Time" stands out as one of the most remembered and celebrated ballads of the 1980s. Adele's "Someone Like You" managed to become an iconic success during our current era of upbeat dance music, a feat impressive in itself.
Which song do you guys think is better, and why? My vote goes to "Time After Time" for a number of reasons. For one, I like the music a lot more. The haunting, '80s-style chords do a lot more for me than the piano in Adele's song. I also strongly prefer Lauper's rockish vocals to Adele's soulful vocals, and I find the lyrics easier to relate to personally.

Both are fantastic, but ultimately, I prefer Cyndi's song.

Um.... Cyndi Lauper to Adele? No poll needed.
Cyndi's song is a classic and is still to this day a classic. Find me in 20 years to see if SLY held up.

One is a legend, a classic, a stunning song with amazing lyrics. The other one is over rated and was only successful due to previous single
