blog.seattlepi.com/people/2011/07/29/rihanna-women-are-dominating-pop-music/
Rihanna says that women are dominating pop music. While I would like to agree with her, I feel like she contradicts herself by saying that there is a "pack" of women enjoying the worldwide success. Are women really dominating pop music, or do the top stars of our time just happen to be female?
I think the abscense of huge male stars is a good thing for pop music, even though I don't care for much of this "pack" Rihanna is speaking of.blog.seattlepi.com/people/2011/07/29/rihanna-women-are-dominating-pop-music/

She didn't mention Adele, therefore I don't agree with her.

Well, if Rihanna thinks that pack of wome brinf a fresh air to music... she must be deluded. I don't care for them, except maybe a random song here or there. Still, I agree with her when she says women are dominating the pop music now. It's true. It doesn't mean it's something good or bad, just that everywhere you look or listen, there is a female pop singer there.

Tec I think women are dominating I mean how many guys out there now are selling millions upon millions of records and getting number 1s like crazy? Eminem is the only one that comes close right now.

Correct you have these mega stars that do not let room for others because they are always getting number ones because of their name rather then the song. Then you have no artists trying to fight to get to that number one spot which is really hard to do. I mean you know that if Born This Way, Rolling In The Deep, Only Girl In The World. Were sung by some upcoming artist it sure as heck would not get number one maybe if it was lucky it would get top 20. The fact is its a big click. Where once you are in, you are pretty much in for awhile.

^i m not sure if it is the audience or the radio that makes this happen. most of these famous female artists have songs that are overrated that should peak lower but those songs peak so high because of their name.
other than these female artists, the black rappers/singer dominates the chart.
i want white male singers and white pop rock bands and boy bands to dominate the chart again.

Simply Plan, Every Avenue, A Day To Remember, All Time Low, Cobra Starship, and bands like that should be dominating. Not over used autotune songs that all sound the same with the same beat.

Well, they did do a cover of Since U Been Gone lmao. Idk who are we to judge what is 'mainstream' or not. In 20 years 'mainstream' could be something FAR different from what we have now

I know; I just meant that A Day To Remember sound a bit too rough to crossover imo. Pretty much the same thing that stops Rise Against, Avenged Sevenfold and many others from crossing over as well.
But maybe pop audiences want a new style of rock song to crossover. The typical rock power ballads seem to have worn out their welcome.

Are women really dominating pop music, or do the top stars of our time just happen to be female? Don't really get what you mean KP (sorry lol) - I don't think Rihanna is saying anything ingenious here though ;D Women have basically dominated pop music since the late 1980s
