B'Day was an amazing album all around. One of the best that year. Agreed. I think this era can be much more successful, but I'm worried about this 2 single strategy. Beyonce can have a #1 on Urban, Rhythmic and Pop, she doesn't need 2 singles, and it can only do her damage. Plus if shes going dance pop, wouldn't an urban single ruin that direction? But the label must have a good reason. I hope these songs are CIL level. Anyway, I'm so excited to hear them. Go Bee!

She can be #1 on all three formats, just not with the same song. Beyonce has urban cred, but you can push that only so far. Urban will accept Pop songs disguised with "urban" beats (Irreplaceable), but they don't tolerate dance songs (like Closer and Forever). Besides Irreplaceable, Urban was the only format that really stood by Beyonce last time well, so she doesn't want to alienate them with some dance song.

What about Disturbia? That's dance/pop and didn't that do well on urban?

“If I Were A Boy” was produced by Toby Gad (Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry”),

She's going to alienate Urban by sending both singles there. Pop on the other hand will welcome both songs.
I have a funny feeling we'll see this thrown aside and "Single Ladies" will be the one to hit both formats big. I don't know, I just feel it.

I can see that happening too. The more daring non urban song could be ignored, whie the riddle of the road safe crossover pop/R&B makes everyone happy

Why the two singles? I don't get it. I think she's desperate to reclaim her thrown as 'queen' again since Riri took it over this past year. But with good enough music, she will be fine.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this new stuff will sound.
B'Day to me didn't have stand out hit, well other than Irreplaceable. It had a lot of solid tracks but none of them were SMASH HIT material IMO. Well Upgrade U was pretty darn close but it needed to be the lead single IMO. And I think the recored as a little too urban in parts. But overall a solid album. It just lacked the hits that Dangerously Inlove had (though that album was littered with filler, they chose the singles well.)

The press release made it seem like she was sending one to each catered-format, but she's sending both songs to Urban/Urban AC/Pop/Rhythmic so I don't see how its different.

This is really different for Beyonce, especially a first single, and that being said I really don't like it. The lyrics are so stupid and it's just blah all around.

Damn I'll have to wait til after work to listen to it. Is it Whitney Houston-ish, you know a more mature sound?

It's just stupid really. This is "grown" and "serious" beyonce while Single Ladies sounds like a B'Day album track.
