Yeah, SUBG went to #2 and there have been others like You Belong To Me and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. But I dunno, the weak #2s seem to start more I think like Loverboy, Party In The USA (before it became a bonafide hit) and Crush

And then you can have epic songs that go #1 on the Hot 100, but fail to top the CHR airplay chart, ala Umbrella

I've seen youtube multiltrack covers before, but I think this is the best I've ever seen, especially for the chorus. The amount of depth he was able to duplicate is mind blowing. Especially duplicating the synthish guitars The hi-hat and pads also seem real. And the way the sounds were all mixed together only helped. I just looked on his profile. Looks like he is actually a producer and engineer. No wonder! But, why do people keep changing that "Let's go all the way tonight" line. It's not really a kinky line.

That line is quite intense for the song. They way the line is said in a slow song makes it much more explicit which is why many people edit it. Slower songs with explicit lines are much more powerful because a beat is not drowning it out

BTW, I don't think that cover was THAT good. It was nice, but something felt off.
The one thing I will complement is the transition into another song. That is by far one of my favorite qualities in a YouTube/cover video. Being able to find two songs, make them your own, and still connect them so it sounds nice is not an easy thing to do. He gets a ton of props for that.

I've seen other covers of Teenage Dream that I like better, but what makes that stand out are the technical aspects.
And I don't think that transition or transitions in general are as special as you're making them. You just need to have a basic understanding of modulation and chord progressions. And I don't think this transition was good anyway. It fit somewhat chord wise, but beyond that it didn't make any sense.

#3 Hot 100 this week.
But I think that's expected. This song always sounded like the album's Hot N Cold to me. I don't know how much further it can go in terms of impact. It never seemed it would eclipse CG (like Poker Face/I Gotta Feeling managed to eclipse even huge songs like JD and BBP)
Also #11 Hot 100 Airplay (Up from #15 and #26 a week, and two weeks ago respectively so it's growing at a nice exponential rate) #2 Hot Digital Songs #9 Mainstream Top 40 #20 Adult Top 40 (Airpower Award) #29 Rhythmic Top 40

I feel like this went to #1 already. As to the song and it's impact, I think it is just now starting to feel like a hit which makes sense since it just hit the top 10 on radio. I saw it used today in a commercial for the CW's line up advertising their fall schedule and it just kind of clicked from there. That combined with the video being prominently used and the news about Katy on the entertainment shows just made it seem like this is a hit.
I think I have been under appreciating this in terms of lyrics and production, it's no masterpiece by any means but I've been feeling like Katy's just all novelty lately with the release of her album and I've been wrestling with how much I like the material with her offering. It's not so much that I don't like it so much as I am not satisfied with it. Yeah there's so movers (TGIF and regretfully Peacock) but what else is there. I am left with a "is that all there is moment".
Teenage Dream (the song) is the heart of the album and I guess that's kind of the problem. There's enough substance to feign interest and to gloss over feelings and make us seem as if Katy is a related figure who feels things like we do, but is that really true? Is Katy being honest or is she just trying to make a quick buck like Madonna and Timberlake have been doing with their most recent sets?
Thus my big problem with Katy this era, I am constantly questioning her authenticity and her sincerity where as I never did before. Before I felt that her music was commercial and an obvious try for mainstream success but there was enough personality there that it still retained a certain bit of bite in her song-writing that made me feel like I was hearing something different. Something that was truly Katy in between the pumping beats and slick Martin productions. I was able to feel what made Katy tick and she was a bit different from the run of the mill pop star. Through her odd wit and her vocal performances I felt that she was being very honest and genuine and a little quirky and different too. That's what made her sparkle in the dime a dozen pop artists out there. That was always Katy's appeal. She could be a little bit dark, humorous, a little emo too but she could coat all in a pop hook that made her seem like a poppy version of Alanis (Ur So Gay and you don't even like.....PENIS!)
Now it seems like whatever made her interesting has been drowned out for the sake of commercialism and being as inoffensive as possible. There are still some Katy-isms in her new material so to speak, but they are forever few and far between. What makes this all the worse is that Katy has never been an awesome balladeer in terms of depth and most of her ballads are hit and miss so we just end up being stuck with reasonably solid up-tempos with little to no bite to them, and well who cares about that?
Anyone could be singing these songs. You could give CG's to Paris Hilton and it would be virtually the same, you could give Teenage Dream to Miley or Jojo and it would seemingly have the same impact. I think this album is a crossroads for me and her, I need more from her then just the frothy bits of pop that are cooked up for her.

Teenage Dream is my least favourite song off the album. It feels so dry and souless and doesn't envoke the quirky Katy that I loved during her past 5 singles. I love Firework ET & Circle The Drain because not only do they envoke some of Katy's quirkly lyrics, they are catchy and Circle The Drain in particular is a personal song. Overall her album is decent, I just can't stand Teenage Dream.

Katy's one of those artists that It really doesn't matter to me what she does behind the scenes or whatever her 'image' is. She makes good pop music, and with her that's all I really care about.

Normally I don't care either, but when I feel that there is a disconnect from what your singing and who you are I personally just can't get into the music as much as I could with someone who I really feel is truly into what they are doing. To me it's something that obvious when you listen to the music. You can tell the people who are honest and love the direction they are going in and you can tell the people who are just faking to get a hit. Safe to say contrived artist just doesn't work for me.

Just seems too cliche and predictable and almost amateurish.

Why? Would "Take my virginity tonight?" work better? Or, Hey! How about "I WANNA SLIDE MY V-CARD TONIGHT"!

I need some remixes of this. Skip Kaskade's because it is dreadfully boring and goes nowhere and don't even waste your time on Dave Aude's because god, that is one horrible remix. I like Manhattan Clique's remix the best, it gives the song a nice bump up and turns it into a sort of a club anthem with the chorus synths and bass.
