It's tomorrow !!!
5 reasons to watch the CMAs[/size]
Country music's best and brightest will converge on Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday night for the 44th annual Country Music Awards (airing on ABC).
Among those slated to perform are Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Reba and Kenny Chesney.
Aside from the big hair and even bigger belt buckles, these are the five things that excite us most about this year's CMAs:
1. Hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley Try Not to Embarrass Themselves: Underwood has the bubbly energy, Paisley's got the sense of humour. But leaving hosting duties to singers -- no matter how outgoing they are or how well they "act" in videos -- can backfire. (Junos. Nelly Furtado. Never forget.) As long as Underwood and Paisley keep the bad comedy routines to a minimum, viewers should be spared shots of other country stars forcing out an awkward chuckle.
2. Gwyneth Paltrow Introduces Raw Foods to Tennessee (Or Not): The country music community hasn't always been welcoming of celebrities who use the genre as a way to revive a flagging career (I'm looking in your general direction, Jessica Simpson.) But Paltrow might just get away with it.The actress stars as a troubled singing star in the upcoming Country Strong, and if the theme song is anything to go by, Paltrow's got a real knack for country music. She has a nice voice and a subtle, but credible twang, but let's see if she can pull it off with Vince Gill standing next to her on stage during her live country music singing debut.
3. Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson -- Together At Last: With 11 hit singles under his belt, Aldean is one of today's hottest country acts. And thanks to his rock 'n' roll attitude, he's also one of the genre's most refreshing artists. Clarkson, American Idol's first winner and arguably its most successful alum, also doesn't fit in the cookie-cutter format of pop stardom. Their duet, Don't You Want to Stay, is one of the highlights of Aldean's new CD, My Kinda Party. Hopefully, the chemistry translates to the stage when they perform the song live.
4. Battle of the Blonds: Twenty-year-old Taylor Swift is the current Queen of Country, but don't think fellow kajillion-selling heavyweight Underwood doesn't want that title back. Swift made off with the entertainer of the year gong in 2009, but she's not nominated in that category this year. Still, it's quite possible she'll snatch female vocalist away from Underwood, who will be too busy with costume changes to even notice.
That said, Texas firecracker Miranda Lambert is poised to be the big winner of the night. Not only did she receive a record nine nominations, including entertainer of the year, album of the year and female singer of the year, Lambert also celebrates her 27th birthday the same night. How can she lose?
5. Battle of the Country Hunks: Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton and George Strait are going head to head for the title of male vocalist of the year, while the male-dominated new artist of the year category includes the not entirely unattractive Easton Corbin and Luke Bryan.
