What an incredible song, it's no wonder this went to #1 on both CHR and Hot AC back in 1999. This was one of the songs I loved when I first got into music, and it remains a favorite to this day.
I just read this on wikipedia:
Speculation as to the song's meaning has persisted for quite some time [1], but Rzeznik himself, in a 2002 performance on VH1 Storytellers, has stated definitively that the song refers to a teenage girl in a Catholic environment who has become pregnant. She and her boyfriend are debating as to the possibility of abortion or marriage. The ending verse of the song suggests the young couple finally opts for an abortion.
I will never look at this song the same again...but the song finally makes sense to me.

I've known that for awhile, but it is an amazing song.

I never paid attention to the lyrics enough to wonder what was it about, but from what I remember left me going
