Well no matter how it sounded, it wasn't going top 20 because its Sarah Buxton. It's sad, but true. This is like her 3rd single thats barely missed the top 20. I wonder how many song have peaked in the 30-21 range that were by artists on Lyric Street's roster. I'd bet they would hold the record. With Sarah, SHeDAISY, Josh Gracin, Trent Tomlinson, Bucky Covington, etc. it would be a big list. But this is easily my least favorite single from Sarah, yet its too bad this didn't go top 20 so she could actually get a top 20 hit.

^Country has to be an even worse format than active rock in that regard. You know, that it's hard for certain artists to do well? I know that a brand new Easton Corbin is climbing towards #1, but I still see "core" artists getting the nod over lesser-known ones. Every other artist in the top 10 is either a core artist or at least someone with past success. I guess active rock is the same way, I just feel like it's not as harsh.
And I'm not too familiar with Lyric Street. But they do have Rascal Flatts (who are overall just awful imo) and somehow they are going top 10 and #1 time and time again. Why is that?

For a new country act to emerge into country music with a top 10 hit they have to do the following:
1) Have a song that is about typical country shit. Small towns, trucks and/or tractors, girlfriends, beer/drunkenness, etc. 2) Be a male
Its sad, but true on 90% of the cases. How many female acts have risen to the level of superstardom in the last 8 years? Carrie, Taylor, and I guess you could say Sugarland (and maybe consider Miranda Lambert... but thats stretching it). Every other female acts struggle with every single to become that level or are past superstars that are hit or miss with country radio (Martina, Faith, Reba, etc.). New female artists have a much harder time trying to get a foot in the door (Megan Mullins, Sarah Buxton, Ashley Monroe, Ashton Shepherd, Crystal Shawanda, Bomshel, Danielle Peck, Emily West, Carter's Chord, Katrina Elam, Julianne Hough, etc.) all have the talent to be super successful and have had some phenomenal songs that could get them there. But country radio is so damn stubborn and they don't want to change their predominantly male playlist that consist of redneck/beer/truck songs. In my opinion, the females have impressed me more than the guys have for debut singles for the most part. I hope it changes in the future, but I doubt it.
And Rascal Flatts is Rascal Flatts so they will continue to have hit after hit unless they put out utterly atrocious song (a la, "Bob That Head") or songs too phenomenal for country radio (a la "Why"), but the typical mediocre Flatts song is what country radio loves and that won't change anytime soon. Hopefully Lady Antebellum and Love and Theft can push RF into oblivion soon.

Hopefully Lady Antebellum and Love and Theft can push RF into oblivion soon. I've definitely noticed what you're saying about breaking into country radio. These male artists go to #1 with singles like "Small Town USA" (which I do like). Obviously, that song is about the things like beer and country living. Then you get a much better song imo, "That Song In my Head" from Julianne Hough and it misses the top 10. On top of being an awesome song, she's also very attractive. I think that's a very good post, Zack. You really do sound like an expert guru on country music! So I know you don't follow rock music as closely, but do you think they're more to open to new acts than country? Take a female-fronted Halestorm, for example. And about Rascal Flatts, I guess I'm just bias. ;D When it comes to country groups, I don't want to hear some soulful whiny ballads about love and crying. And their song "Summer Nights" was just .

I don't know much about Rock music at all. I can tell you what Rock music I like, but if my life depended on it, I could not tell you what the 3 most recent #1 singles on the format were. So I really don't know how to compare it to Rock. And I'm not a huge Rascal Flatts fan, but sometimes I enjoy them. I much prefer their older stuff ("Feels Like Today" era and earlier) when they weren't as poppy. "This Everyday Love", "Bless The Broken Road", "Feels Like Today", "Prayin' For Daylight", "Love You Out Loud", etc. are all phenomenal songs. btw, I liked "Summer Nights" (which is hilarious, because it sounds like a song you would love and I would hate ;D)
