How many songs have debuted at #1 on Canada's Alt chart? Very few songs have done it down here, as I'm sure you know.

It never fails to interest me how poorly Chevelle perform on your active charts compared to ours. Meanwhile, the Black Keys (an American band, nonetheless), do so much better on this chart. I guess they just fit in with the sound more.

Hey guys, I'm the one who started canadianrockalt.blogspot.com/So glad to have found your site here. I thought that the charts were only archived when I started doing it, so it's great to find out that this site has been doing it since 2009. I mainly started my archive to cite in Wikipedia articles, so, unfortunately, finding charts that go back to 2009 gives me a lot of work to do on that site . Anyway, I look forward to chatting to you about the charts!

Anyway, yeah, I've tried editing Wikipedia with this information but to no avail. This was back when you had to log in to view forum posts, mind now. Now I could probably do it.

Here's my first bit of work. With the information in this thread, I expanded this list alottttt: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_number-one_alternative_rock_singles_%28Canada%29Why was this site almost shut down? That'd really suck. While doing up that list, I skimmed a few posts, also. You guys shit so much on Lay Me Down! I like it alot, haha. Might as well mention that there's no rock stations in this city anymore. We only had one since August 2009, then they switched back to pop in January of this year. Probably better off since they sucked, badly. Wish I had some playlists to show you. Pretty disappointing that I can't turn on a radio here and listen to anything I enjoy. Sigh. Good thing we have the internet!

I think you screwed up a column there. The first week of "Youth Without Youth". It says "rowspan="3"" instead of the artist's name. Why was this site almost shut down? That'd really suck. Our April Fool's Joke was a direct parody of ATRL. It got shut down for copyright infringement. While doing up that list, I skimmed a few posts, also. You guys shit so much on Lay Me Down! I like it alot, haha. It's grown on me, but do you really think it deserved 11 weeks at #1 in the States? Might as well mention that there's no rock stations in this city anymore. We only had one since August 2009, then they switched back to pop in January of this year. Probably better off since they sucked, badly. Wish I had some playlists to show you. Pretty disappointing that I can't turn on a radio here and listen to anything I enjoy. Sigh. Good thing we have the internet! Ah, yes, OZ-FM, the rock of the rock. The reason we can't hear "Money for Nothing" uncensored. I've got a rock station; I insult it every chance I get around here. But admittedly, it's gotten better.

Haha, I remember making fun of "Lay Me Down" all the time. ;D While it grew on me over time, I never understood why it was played to the point of spending 11 weeks on top, especially since Sublime with Rome's "Panic" could barely reach the top 5 a year later.
Nick, do you guys at least have a classic rock station, or are you guys completely rock-free?

I think you screwed up a column there. The first week of "Youth Without Youth". It says "rowspan="3"" instead of the artist's name. Ah, thanks, fixed. Our April Fool's Joke was a direct parody of ATRL. It got shut down for copyright infringement. I see. So they can't take a joke. It's grown on me, but do you really think it deserved 11 weeks at #1 in the States? No, not really. Probably only happened since it's such a great song for summer with the reggae style and whatnot. Maybe we should be watching for Spread Too Thin... Ah, yes, OZ-FM, the rock of the rock. The reason we can't hear "Money for Nothing" uncensored. I've got a rock station; I insult it every chance I get around here. But admittedly, it's gotten better. Lucky for you, anyway. Nice to hear a station get better. Do stations still really censor Money For Nothing? That's stupid. The whole thing was idiotic. Then again, I can't stand that song. So many people were pissed when OZ changed formats. They were getting comments, requests for rock, etc for months after the switch. Even more so than just normal comments and requests that fit the format. Before they had active rock, they played new pop with classic rock songs. What a messy, disgusting format that one. Won't surprise me if they go back to it. I gotta bring up something that I've seen talked about. Either you or KP brought up something about how Canadian bands (specifically, I remember reading Our Lady Peace) do well up here and not in the US. I guess it's pretty obvious that they do well because the 35% CanCon has to be filled, and unfortunately that does make stations play songs that they normally would pass on. I sort of get the impression that the US program directors know that some Canadian bands get played up here solely on the basis that CanCon needs to be filled, and therefore don't bother listening/playing them because they think that they're not good enough. It amazes me that they don't even give them a shot. I hear songs like "The Stand" by Mother Mother (#3 Alt), "Good Day At The Races" by Hollerado (#7 Alt), and can't imagine them NOT being well received on US alt stations. The same goes for two recent #1s, "Heavyweight" and "Albatross" on active station. Just seems like they're making the listener miss out on some great stuff because of a CanCon curse. Yeah, I like Panic alot more. Crazy that it didn't do great. We have a classic rock station, and a station that plays a bit of classic rock amongst crap. I do a college radio show, and that one hour is the only time you can hear some new rock in this town, sadly! And our transmitter is only 50 watts, lmao.

I see. So they can't take a joke. Right on. It was quite obvious that was just a light-hearted day of humor, but someone else saw it as a "copyright violation." So many people were pissed when OZ changed formats. They were getting comments, requests for rock, etc for months after the switch. Even more so than just normal comments and requests that fit the format. Before they had active rock, they played new pop with classic rock songs. What a messy, disgusting format that one. Won't surprise me if they go back to it. That's exactly how it was here when our Classic Rock station "The Arrow" flipped its format to Triple A "The Globe" back in 2007. That lasted all of about a year before they went back to Classic Rock, before mysteriously flipping over to Hot AC soon after that. Current pop with classic rock sounds pointless IMO. It's appealing to two entirely different audiences. Yeah, I don't understand exactly what seperates "CanCon bands" like Big Wreck and Our Lady Peace from bands like Theory of a Deadman and Three Days Grace, that get a ton of play down here. It also puzzles me how bands like Default have one big hit on our rock charts and then go back to being viewed as CanCon. A lot of the CanCon stuff I've checked out is much better than some of the stuff from the likes of Adelitas Way, Escape The Fate, Grouplove and other groups that our charts give a shot to. That's awesome...I start working on our college radio station next week, but it's a Hot AC internet station. Do they really let you pick your own music at your school? How much of the town can hear you when you're broadcasting at only 50 watts?
