I've been getting back into pop music this week and because of that, as well as my ridiculously amazing new #1, I feel like doing a commentary! This won't be weekly like it used to be though, I'm just going to do it whenever I feel like it.
Greetings, chartaholics! How has your week been? Mine has actually been rather awesome, especially since I finally bought 21! But enough chatter, onto the chart!
As I said in the very beginning of this thread, I have a ridiculously amazing new #1, meaning that last week's #1, Vicci Martinez's “Afraid To Sleep”, drops from #1 to #6 after three weeks at the top spot. What is this ridiculously amazing new #1, may you ask? It is none other than the oh-so gorgeous Adele's third single in the U.K., “Set Fire To The Rain”, which climbs all the way from #12 last week, making this the second biggest gain to #1 on my chart, just behind, well, Vicci Martinez's “Afraid To Sleep”. A few weeks ago Vicci climbed from 16-1 on the chart. As of right now, “Set Fire To The Rain” is my favorite song of the year! That might change though once new Lita and new Rush come out… if they ever do. My past three #1's, “BU2B” by Rush, “Rolling In The Deep” by Adele, and “Afraid To Sleep” by Vicci Martinez, all spent three weeks at #1. Trust me though, that streak is ending now since SFTTR is going to spend WAY more than three weeks at the top. Oh and by the way since we are on the subject of Slaydele, 21 is an amazing album and if you don't have it already, buy it please.
The Foo Fighters spend another week at #2 with “Walk”. Honestly I don't remember how many weeks they have been #2 on here. It looks like they won't be able to repeat the previous success of their single “Rope” on here though, which spent one week at #1 a few months back. But hey, there's always the next single! Speaking of Adele, her former #1 “Rolling In The Deep”, actually climbs two spots from #5 to #3 this week. I know a lot of people are burnt out on that song now, particularly my Dad who told me the other day that he hears the song everywhere he goes, but meh, I still love it. Wrapping up the top five this week is Katy Perry spending her 284th week at #4 with “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) and Maroon 5/Christina Aguilera who fall from #3 to #5 with “Moves Like Jagger”. Aside from Adele though, there aren't any other new entries in the top 10.
Some notable climbs this week include Anthrax's “Fight ‘Em Til You Can't”, which moves from #9 to #7, Beverley McClellan's “Love Sick”, which moves from #10 to #9, Red Hot Chili Peppers' “Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie”, which moves from #21 to #12, Dream Theater's “On The Backs Of Angels”, which moves from #22 to #14, and Demi Lovato's “Skyscraper”, which moves from #25 to #15.
Well apparently it is Slaydele mania on the chart this week – “Set Fire To The Rain” climbs from #12 to #1, “Rolling In The Deep” climbs back into the top three, and now her second U.S. single and former U.K. #1, “Someone Like You”, is the week's highest debut at #21! Other debuts this week include a song that took forever to grow on me , “I Wanna Go” by Britney Spears at #22, “Best Thing I Never Had” by Beyondsh1t, I mean, Beyonce', at #23, and this just goes to show what a latehead I've become… “Good Life” by OneRepublic debuts at #25. JUST BECAUSE I LIKE THAT SONG THOUGH DOESN'T MEAN I DON'T HATE RYAN TEDDER ANYMORE. Seriously I still think what he did to Kelly was f**ked up. It's okay though, “Already Gone” > “Halo” tbh.
Before I wrap things up, to celebrate Adele having three songs on my chart this week, check out this video of various bits from Adele interviews. She has an AMAZING sense of humor and an awesome laugh, this video cracks me up every time.
Have a great weekend, and enjoy the chart!
