We all have songs that we think should have reached the pinnacle of success. This is a thread to talk about those songs. I will begin by listing ten songs that I feel should have hit #1, in chronological order.
Def Leppard - Hysteria (1987) - This song was perfect for the pop airwaves. I find it weird that "Love Bites" hit #1 but this didn't.
Skid Row - I Remember You (1990) - This was the #1 prom song of 1990 and rightly so, but for some reason pop radio didn't catch on. Much heavier songs have hit #1 so this power ballad should have done just fine.
Counting Crows - Round Here (1994) - One complaint I have about mainstream music is that it tends to favor silly music a bit too heavily over serious music. That was the case in 1994 when a silly song by Sheryl Crow hit #1 and thid diidn't.
Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise (1995) - How the hell did Vanilla Ice hit #1 in the early '90s but this didn't hit #1 years later?
Mouth (1996) - I can't remember who sings this (hele me out here) but this guilty pleasure jam was certainly worthy of hitting the top spot.
Tal Bachman - She's So High (1999) - I always say that pop started to slowly lose its momentum in '99. It could have been better if this hit #1 rather than a lot of the songs that did.
Michelle Branch - All You Wanted (2002) - So much crap was out there in 2002, but female pop-rock was that year's saving grace. This should have gone straight to #1 imo.
Madonna - Hung Up (2005) - Who says she was too old to hit #1? This totally deserved it.
Nelly Furtado - Maneater (2006) - I really loved this song back then. It has an awesome chorus and I can't comprehend how this flopped in comparison to the following single (which was more odd-sounding).
La Roux - Bulletproof (2010) - This is my favorite pop song of 2010 and it was too bad it didn't even go top 5.
Def Leppard - Hysteria (1987) - This song was perfect for the pop airwaves. I find it weird that "Love Bites" hit #1 but this didn't.
