When I was up in Mass. for the summer, Radio 104 out of Hartford played Breakeven by the Script all the time I went down to see some buddies in Charlotte, and 106.5 The End was playin Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue and You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC Just wondering what other songs you guys have heard on Alt. radio that don't seem to fit

Man, hearing "Breakeven" on an Alt station would seem really weird.
My alt station does play "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC, as well as a few other songs. Hearing "Highway to Hell" is the most weird imo. I can't say I've heard Motley Crue (outside of "specialty" shows), but they play Guns N' Roses all the time. Worst of all, they once played "Mama, I'm Coming Home" by Ozzy Osbourne. I don't know how much less Alt it can get. ;D
I'm sure I'll think of more, but here's the first weird song that comes to mind:
Dynamite Hack - Boyz in the Hood (this song is a staple on WWDC...I'm sure it's the only station that can claim that)

Stronger by Kanye West, and a Lupe Fiasco song..I want to say Daydreamin'? I think.

Dynamite Hack - Boyz in the Hood (this song is a staple on WWDC...I'm sure it's the only station that can claim that) That's rarely played, but not weird. It peaked at #12. I don't have an Alt station, but some of the oddest songs I've seen in an Alt station's playlist is "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot and "Fifteen" by Taylor Swift.

^Fifteen? Seriously? ;D That's...beyond weird.
And I know that it peaked at #12, I've just never seen anyone else playing it these days. Same goes for "A Praise Chorus" by Jimmy Eat World.

I think you being in Detroit makes that more normal. I'm betting they still play "Bawitdaba" all the time like my Alt station did back in 2004?

Yeah, I guess it isn't that strange, but the fact I'm hearing "stan" or "cleaning out my closet" is still kinda weird, but cool!
and they do love some kid rock!

Oh, I didn't realize it was those songs! I figured it would be "Lose Yourself" or "The Way I Am". I saw the latter being played on an active station once (though it might have been a remix or something).

Toronto's Alt plays "Not Afraid" by Eminem, and "Porn Star Dancing" by My Darkest Days. I don't think they even remember what "alternative" means.

Well, Eminem is the sort of rap artist that the alternative audience can identify with right? I know he's had a few songs chart on the alt chart here in the USA. And wasn't Porn Star Dancing sent for adds for Alt in the USA? It's charting too.

Not sure whatsup with that song F. U. by Cee Lo Green (thought it was rap), but it's #40 on Alternative (just read post in R&B forum and it's the dude from Gnarls Barkley, so I guess it's not outta place)
99X has been playin some pretty wussy "Alternative" tracks like Run-Around by Blues Traveler, The World I Know by Collective Soul, and How To Save A Life by the Fray
They're also playing You And Your Heart by Jack Johnson

^It'd be really funny to hear "Run Around" on an Alt station in 2010. ;D And "How to Save a Life" never fit in on that chart. Believe it or not, my Active station still plays "The World I Know" from time to time. I love that song, but I know what you mean about it being wussy. Well, Eminem is the sort of rap artist that the alternative audience can identify with right? I know he's had a few songs chart on the alt chart here in the USA. And wasn't Porn Star Dancing sent for adds for Alt in the USA? It's charting too. Eminem was cool with the alternative audience in the early 2000s, but her certainly doesn't belong there now. And since when is "Porn Star Dancing" charting on Alt?

Believe it or not, my Active station still plays "The World I Know" from time to time. I love that song, but I know what you mean about it being wussy. I never used to hear it very often on Active, but now I do. And sometimes I mistake it for "Iris". ;D Eminem was cool with the alternative audience in the early 2000s, but her certainly doesn't belong there now. I personally don't think he ever belonged there. But what do I know? And since when is "Porn Star Dancing" charting on Alt? YA RLY. That song screams something you'd listen to Alt to get away from. But again, what do I know?

But 1999-2001 was the era where rap-rock was really popular. I think the audience that ate up the likes of Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit were also Eminem fans, you know? Does that means it belongs on an Alternative station, though? Disturbed, Stone Sour and Avenged Sevenfold are also getting played, it doesn't mean they belong there. And I think you know I don't follow BDS.

Maybe, maybe not, but in the context of being weird, I don't think is something that's so extreme.

So how are these for weird?
Pink Floyd - Another Brick In the Wall Part II Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
They were about an hour apart...an hour that also included the opposite end of the spectrum (MGMT).

I don't really think those are that weird at all. They are both rock songs.

That's what CFOX in Vancouver does too, yet it's also considered Alternative. Makes no sense to me.

My Alt. station keeps playing old INXS tracks, like Never Tear Us Apart and New Sensation INXS had 9 top 10 hits on the Alt chart, including a #1, and charted right until '97. Is playing INXS on Alt in 2010 a little odd? Yes. Is the idea behind playing them weird? Not at all.

Good point, man. That's why I don't think it's weird when my station plays Midnight Oil, even if it is rare for 2010.
As for what DJ said...just because something is rock, what does that mean?

My point is, I'll take an Alt that still plays "Devil Inside" any day over one that plays Five Finger Death Punch.
