Payola to #1, same with Love Story. People kill me with these lame "payola" claims. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the same exact claim for so many songs. When Circus stalled near the top of the chart and suddenly exploded, to eventually go #1, you didn't hear anyone shouting "payola". People who do use it only use it at their convenience. Anyway, I don't think this will go #1 regardless.

Jake works at a radio station, so he should know if a song has some "support" from payola. *chuckles* Well then perhaps he can provide us all with the evidence. Honey, when Circus stalled, Jives A&R team sent us CD's and posters to give away as fan packs, next week? We up the song +30 spins. When If U Seek Amy was barely making it up to the top, guess who was suddenly giving away concert tickets to the Chicago stops of the Circus tour. We were. The next week? Another 25+ spin hike. And now we're going to be giving away Taylor Swift tickets for her show in october. Wonder how many spins it will get upped next week But this isn'y payola, its called "incentives" now. We play your song more, you give is tickets to give away and we get listeners tuning in. So not its not "payola" but its scratching each others backs.

So not its not "payola" but its scratching each others backs. ...which are tactics used with practically every major artist these days. Assuming I actually do believe you work at a radio station, it is only one of many. Claiming radio stations across the US are receiving incentives or "payola" as you referred to it to increase You Belong With Me's spins at this point is a bit presumptuous (to say the least). The term "payola" carries a negative connotation and 90% of the time anyone uses it they are specifically trying to undermine credibility of the song's success (hence why you don't see it being used with said poster's favorite artists). Is it too far-fetched to believe the song could be rising simply because the public find it enjoyable and not because people are trying to persuade radio programmers to increase spins? It's receiving good call-out scores and digital sales have been amazing (not to mention the song has been selling the album).

And those callout scores have carried it high but with the burn rate continuously growing larger and larger each week, the song is also going to suffer. I am not trying to take anything away from Taylor, she's having great success, and no one can take that away from her. But to say a song that exploded out of the gate monstrously hasn't received even the tiniest bit of label sponsored help is outlandish.

And those callout scores have carried it high but with the burn rate continuously growing larger and larger each week the song is also going to suffer. Many songs experience increasing burn rates throughout their chart performance yet many have also still gone on to hit #1. Are all of those songs supported with "payola"? Hell most songs which do hit #1 slow down before reaching the pole position. So every song (no matter how highly anticipated) which initially explodes onto the chart is due to "payola" or "incentives"? So then Circus, Womanizer, My Life Would Suck Without You, Right Round, LoveGame, Party In The USA, I Gotta Feeling (just to name a few) were all successful because of "payola" or "incentives"? Bull. If this occurrence is so common place with radio today why is it even worth mentioning? Also, I believe a label promoting their artist at radio (concert tickets/promotional materials) is a bit different from a label illegally paying radio programmers to play their artist's latest single aka "payola".
