MUSIC REVIEW: Rihanna, Liverpool Echo Arena
THE title of her latest album is Good Girl Gone Bad and when Rihanna emerged on the stage at the Echo Arena last night she looked like a very bad girl indeed.
Clad in skintight black PVC hotpants, leather biker jacket and thigh high patent stiletto boots, she opened with her first UK hit the Caribbean-flavoured Pon de Replay and from there it was straight on with the show.
Commanding the stage like a diva twice her age the 20-year-old Barbadian strutted, stomped and strummed air guitar as she ploughed through her biggest hits for a short but sweet 80 minutes.
On up tempo favourites like SOS (which samples the Soft Cell classic Tainted Love) and Breakin' Dishes she shook and shimmied her toned derriere like her little life depended on it.
After changing into a backless hotpant suit and pink feather boa, she slipped down a gear to show off her voice with the cheaters lament Unfaithful and her duet Hate How Much I Love You, where the backing singers took the vocals of rapper Ne-Yo.
And that is where my only criticism of the show comes in because Rihanna did not sing as much as I had expected. Pouting and pulling faces for emotional effect, the microphone was regularly away from her mouth and at times it was more like watching an MC than a singer. That said, this show was more about the overall performance than vocal gymnastics and on that front Rihanna more than delivered.
By the time the opening bars of her current hit Don't Stop the Music, came in, the Grammy Award winner had the sold out stadium on its feet where it stayed for the sexy club cut Shut Up And Drive.
But at the end of the day we were all here to hear just one song, the one that topped the charts for 10 weeks last year and was blamed for the washout summer and when Rihanna belted out Umbrella as her encore, the screaming teenage girls certainly showed their appreciation.
Rihanna said at the end of the show that she thought Liverpool was: Awesome. Well Rihanna, you weren't so bad yourself.

Rihanna Re-Releases "Good Girl" With New Ne-Yo Track Rihanna March 14, 2008, 6:30 PM ET Hillary Crosley, N.Y. Rihanna will release a new version of her hit 2007 album, "Good Girl Gone Bad," on May 27 via Def Jam Records. The revamped set will feature new a single called "Take A Bow." Probably. I am willing to bet its going to be like the video for Irreplaceable. I never ever thought she was trying to be "the new Beyonce" or whatever cause their styles were different, but she's really trying to go for that image now, isn't she?? lol

I think they mentioned it will be getting three new tracks.
Take A Bow is kind of underwhelming, but it makes sense. It's only a rerelease single and if she is really releasing another album this year, it makes sense that they wouldn't go with something that radical, but a safer more middle of the road song with bigger crossover potential.

A re-release and a NEW release? I love Rihanna, but that is too much for ANYONE.

She ALREADY confirmed like 3 times that she is NOT releasing a new album this year. People probably got mixed signals and thought the re-release was going to be a new album.

Yeah, people kept saying there would be a new album. If not this year, probably next anyway LOL. But yeah, regardless, it makes sense that the rerelease single is safe and more crossover.

Yeah, she will probably have a new album out next year. lol I wasn't sick of her before though cause she wasn't really out there and in your face all the time. But I think after this era, she NEEDS to take a break.

It's not a bad song. I think a lot of people are upset because songs they were eying to be singles on the album probably won't be released now.

I think the fan favorite Breakin Dishes still has a chance. I mean look at MiMi's re-release. She released a new song as a single and then released an original album track after that. All hope is not lost!
