I personally feel the need to start this poll for Leona's impending domination of the US and the world is at bay. All the people behind her will continue to push her to the borders of over-saturation.
The question at hand is that does she deserve this success?
I feel that she is overrated at this point, Spirit is atrocious and second-rate and for an album that was "developed" thoroughly, it feels like a rushed album for a contest winner trying to exploit the attention and hype gotten from her winnings.
Her material is blatantly run-of-the-mill, reminiscent of Mariah Carey's pop days but with a special D-List factor. "Spirit" is far from anything amazing, not even close. She has no eminence, no "spirit," (the irony of the album title, referring to her voice perhaps which has the spirit of an aper Mariah Carey voice) a pop girl in pop radio who makes half-baked hits.
At this point, she has to muster up all her artistic character because I don't think she'll go far if she continues with what she has now. Considering it's the 1st album and considering she does have a voice, (although she should lose most of the Mariah Carey influence) I think she may still have potential.
But right now, she is really overrated. Without the label support, she will flounder.

I honestly despise when people go "oh he doesn't deserve success" and stuff like that. I think she's worked hard and has a great team backing her up. She does has something, and whether is her voice or a "charisma" is working for her. That said, I ain't voting.

I never denied her totally as an artist, I even said she has potential. It's just that she is way overrated for the type of material she gives us. Is "Bleeding Love" as good as "Rehab," "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor," "Vision of Love"? Is "Spirit" as good as "Back To Black," "Whatever People Say I Am or "Mariah Carey"?
For someone as supposedly amazing as Leona, she does come short. Yes she works hard, but so does everyone else and not all are good. And yes she has people backing her up but is this all really worthy for her at this point? That's what I'm after.
I never meant to say she should drop out from the industry, it's just that she is lacking for all the hype, support, critical and commercial success. All of these should be tone down to size.
I don't think anyone here thinks "Spirit" and "Bleeding Love" to be amazing, let alone her breaking sales records and getting raved upon by the critics.

To compare Spirit/Bleeding Love to those albums/songs is ludicrous. And good point about the fact that maybe she works hard, but so does everyone else.

She is hella overrated. Simon build her up on X Factor, and shockingly, the whole world took his word as gospel. My goodness, that guy has power! Anyways, as good as Leona's voice is, she's no Mariah, and CERTAINLY no Whitney. What's more, her "Spirit" album is boring and safe. UGH. TO THE LEFT GIRL. NEXT>>>>

Why doesn't she?

Spirit was a huge dissapointment for me, it did have a lot of good songs but her team were saying "every song could be a single" . Bleeding Love is amazing imo but nothing on the album comes close. That said, watching her live she has such an amazing voice that I think she deserves all her success. Hopefully her next album is better though

She deserves it all. She's young and fresh. We need more of these artists. Labels need to put more money on young artists to really develop them into superstars. That isn' t happening in todays industry. More new and fresh stars can only help album sales (though I do think that the album is dead.)

I don't think it's fair to say she doesn't deserve success. I do, however, think that without her label or Clive or anybody she would not be anywhere near what she is now. I don't think she'll last long unless she inputs herself into the next album.

I think its kind of a cop out to say all of her success is based off of what Clive does or her "people" do. Her talent was bound to be recognized sooner or later. Pretty much the only promo it has gotten so far is video plays on VH1, and barely anyone I know even watches the channel except for Best Week Ever, and TRL. I think people just love the song. Everyone I know, outside of the forum world who had never heard of her before hearing Bl on the radio, fell in love with the song and her voice. I think she's totally deserving.

She is deserving. People like her personality, her voice, and her songs. Point blank. Its not like Clive is forcing people to buy it or people are going out to buy it just cause of Clive. Thats ridiculous imo.
