ok...so it's come to my attention that if everyone is intrested in music charts(which I am all for....) someone should then compile everyone's into a "Hot 100".....called the: MediaSource Hit List ....I will take on that responsibility!So basically, what everyone can do to help is post their personal charts every week....David/NVM always has the most recent week stickied at the top of the "Your Charts" forum.....for your convienience! How I will calculate the points is actually on a system that John77 taught me over at pulse...I will go thru everyone's charts and give them different point values, like such:1 1275 2 1225 3 1176 4 1128 5 1081 6 1035 7 990 8 946 9 903 10 861 11 820 12 780 13 741 14 703 15 666 16 630 17 595 18 561 19 528 20 496 21 465 22 435 23 406 24 378 25 351 26 325 27 300 28 276 29 253 30 231 31 210 32 190 33 171 34 153 35 136 36 120 37 105 38 91 39 78 40 66 41 55 42 45 43 36 44 28 45 21 46 15 47 10 48 6 49 3 50 1 ...so if u post more than 50 songs every week, they wont receive any points for that week (....Just an FYI!) Then I will add everyonrs charts together.... Example:Here are exerts from Break Anotha's chart and my chart...and this is where the point value breaks down: TW LW ARTIST TITLE 08 08 Colbie Caillat "Bubbly" 13 14 J. Holiday "Bed" 14 15 Blake Lewis "Break Anotha"
Bubbly will receive : 946Bed will Receive: 741Break Anotha will receive: 703TW LW SONG | ARTIST 02 03 Break Anotha | Blake Lewis 07 11 Bed | J. Holiday 19 16 Bubbly | Colbie Caillat
Break Anotha will receive: 1225Bed will receive: 990Bubbly will receive: 528------------------------------------------------------------------------------ if we were the only 2 people to post a chart that week, the songs would rank like such:01. Break Anotha: 703 + 1225 = 192802. Bed: 741 + 990 = 173103. Bubbly: 946 + 528 = 1474if anything is still unclear... feel free to PM me.... **you can feature recurrent/album tracks on ur top charts...HOWEVER, they will not be tallied into the final MediaSource Hit List**

Great! But, why are the point values so random? A simple inverse system (50 points for #1, 49 points for #2, 48 points for #3 and so on) might work better than like 1275 and 1176 points

they are scaled....
if its just 50, 49, 48, 47..... the poitns will be too close to eachother, well have lots of ties...and idk it just makes more sense having them scaled...the numbers are not random!

I'd like to know the equation too. Where charts are concerned, I don't trust John77

why wouldnt u trust john...its scaled it doesnt relaly matter
its not a linear pattern..... becuz u want to give more emphasis to the songs towards the top of the list...and this way does that...so i think its fine....idk if someone has a better formula feel free to share...but for right now it hink this works!

The linear seems more accurate, but I'll go check how John does his, and how it turns out...

ok...so as/is, we have a lot of tie becuz there are a lot of songs that are only featured on one person's personal chart...
....to deal with the one-sies, i only put people's top 10 on the chart.....(if there were singleton songs....)
for example, this week Break Anotha's number one song is A LITTLE TIME ...he is also the only chart that featured that song...anyways, i added it to the final rankings.... however, break anotha is also the only chart to feature "Shadow of The Day"...however, since it is outside his top 10, its points were not added into the mix....
even tho it may have a higher total number of points than another song with multiple people placing that song on their chart i think the song that is on more people's charts is more popular that week....
for example....2 people charted GOOD CHARLOTTE even tho its total number of points is lower than some songs that are only featured on one chart...i think good charlotte is more valid song bcuz it was seen more frequently!
agree/disagree?

The linear seems more accurate, but I'll go check how John does his, and how it turns out... also, we dont really have enough posters to do linear...it would be another thing if we were getting like 40 charts to do....but thats not the case... the max number of charts weve had in a given week is about 5..... sooooooo i think the scaled verison is working.....

i know its confusing and really hard to explain
ok, ill give an example:
Break Anotha's number one song is "A LITTLE TIME"(Jonathon Clay) he is also the only persona that charted this song this week.... i gave it its propper amount of points.... I did ths for everyone's top 10...
once we got outside top 10, all the charts started getting crazy...and there are so far a lot of ties....LIKE A LOT! so what ive decided(at least for now...since not so many people are charting) i will ignore the songs that are only on 1 persons chart from #s 11-50 ex:
"Wake Up Call" is featured on 2 charts and has (so far) scored 357 points..... even tho wolfpack's "Ready Set, Don't Go" is number 13 and would get a score of 741...(more points than WUC) wake up call is more valid song to feature on the charts becuz 2 people charted it as opposed to one person charting one song fairly high.....
makes more sense?

Hmmmm....I don't know if I agree with this. Seems a bit arbitrary to ignore songs from #11-40 if they are only appear on one chart. It wouldn't be a true reflection of the charts. Especially weird to think that if I had a song at #10 (and I was the only one) that it would count, but then if it was one position lower, it wouldn't

i dont know well thats how it is right now cuz i dont have enough charts...and the last three charts, blackout's, wolfpack and derek's are very similar...which is a good thing its just they only have 20 songs.....
so its just hard....!
SO EVERYONE POST POST POST!

Interesting point system... reminds me of the one I use to compile my year-end charts. This'll give me more incentive to post my chart here more often.

We have to be as accurate as possible. And considering that the Hot 100 panel consists of what, about 8 people? We should count everyone to be most reflective of everyone's interests. Well that's my opinion.

Recurrents and album tracks should be counting if their point total is enough to get them on the chart. What's recurrent on one format could be fresh on another. There's also times when people start getting into songs late, and some songs are technically singles with videos, but not charting.

Brian I completely disagree with the rule that any song that only appears once by a poster, and isn't in the top 10, won't be counted. EVERY VOTE SHOULD COUNT. Please let every song on any chart count please!

Hey, Brian, do you think you could do this with our Yearend charts for 07!? We have a lot of year-end charts, i think it would be cool to see.
