Adele is quite good and all that but she's completely overrated by the Grammy's Panel. "Chasing Pavements" is no way near ROTY worthy, although she does have some amazing songs, particularly "Hometown Glory." (and the High Contrast mix was perfection.) Her and Duffy aren't as good as Amy was, but the Grammy's love the young female "soul" singer type so it's expected.
I hope Paper Planes win Record of The Year, although the awful "Viva La Vida" will get it. I'd be annoyed if Bleeding Love got it though, after Umbrella, Irreplaceable and We Belong Together, all missed out.
Song of The Year is strong, although I don't think American Boy is that well written. Love Song ftw.
Album of the Year I hope goes to "In Rainbows," although it just feels so old now, especially by the time it gets to February 2009. It'll probably go to Coldplay though, although its a sad day in music when Colplay is considered better than Radiohead. I wouldn't be complaining if Lil' Wayne took it though, though I can imagine it would piss Kanye off to not be the first to ever win AOTY with a rap album, especially after being nominated 3 times. Raising Sand wouldn't be bad either, but I highly doubt the Grammy's would do it after awarding it to Herbie Hancock last year. Two albums generally unknown aren't good for their image. And Ne-Yo was a bit of a wtf moment. .
Best New Artist is a bit of a mess imo. Duffy and Adele, oh dear. I actually don't see them having much long term potential, especially Duffy, once the 60s throwback sound has passed. Jonas Brothers is ridiculous, and could easily have been replaced by Leona, who despite being a label puppet, actually has real long term potential. A bit shocking.
There's lots of other stuff I could analyse but I can't be bothered. Overall quite good nominations though.

I'm going to try and be nice about this but the comment that she is overrated and that Chasing Pavements isn't record/song of the year worthy is kind of a mess. Her album is flawless from the opening line in Daydreamer to the final, burst of emotion in Hometown Glory. If anything, her album should have been nominated for Album of the Year as well, as honestly, there is nothing on the list I would vote for before I'd vote for Adele. She's got a natural aura about her in that she's not trying to fake who she is. A lot of people that have come out of the UK are fake and basically lying to themselves. Duffy has gone on the record and even said she didn't like who she had to become to get her mainstream deal but she lives with that everyday. I'm almost 99.999998% sure Amy Winehouse isn't proud of who she truly is. Adele didn't lose weight to become famous, she didn't dye her hair like the junior a&r rep at Sony told her to when she got her deal. She hasn't sacrificed who she is and because of that, she put out an album that I am shocked Grammy Voters overlooked. Yeah, there may be a few weaker songs on the album ("First Love" and "Cold Shoulder") but compared to most albums, they're still a mile ahead. "Chasing Pavements" deserves Record of the Year. It truly is well written, meaningful and enmasks so emotion that its brilliantly and beautifully written and produced.

Furthermore, of Paper Planes wins song of the year, it will be a joke. That song has been so overrated since day one. M.I.A. originally write it about illegal immigrations and things those illegals do to survive, now its just become a petty novelty song about robbing people.

I don't know if it was already talked about here in the thread, but was anyone else super surprised at Ne-Yo getting AotY?! I am happy, but it is still quite shocking.

They wanted an R&B nominee, and he was probably the strongest crossover this year. Alicia would have fit in too, but she kind of split her resources being so big last year with No One

My "General" Picks!
Record Of The Year "Viva La Vida," Coldplay (Will Win): It's Coldplay. "Paper Planes," M.I.A. (Should Win): The underdog, the song that came from nothing to something.
Album Of The Year Raising Sand, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (Will Win): Huge critic favorites! Like Herbie Han(suck my)cock Tha Carter III, Lil' Wayne (Should Win): Fantastic album filled with a lot of great, catchy songs. "Lollipop" sold over 3,000,000 digital copies. All singles were successful.
Song Of The Year "Viva La Vida," Coldplay (Will Win): Yet again, it's Coldplay. "American Boy," Estelle & Kanye West (Should Win): Just a great song.
Best New Artist Adele (Will Win): The voters obviously like her, so she'll get something. Duffy (Should Win): "Mercy" is catchy as hell.

But
Wait till February bitch. She's sweeping her categories.
