Did Mariah Carey shoot herself in the foot?

'E=MC2' is BY Far the biggest F*** up era of the entire decade. I just don't understand how this happened and honestly, I AM FURIOUS. They set up the album so amazingly only to have all this crap happen and nothing be done about it?
The Era started off amazingly...even though 'Touch My Body' probably wasn't the best choice for a 1st single, it was good enough to do the trick and announce her comeback (and manipulate the charts for another #1). It was exactly what Mariah needed hot on the heels from her previous era. The promotion that was given to the album, was like no other. Oprah, American Idol, Good Morning America, lighting the empire state building. I have never seen an album being promoted like how this was. And on top of that...Mariah really did have a solid album. When you have amazing promotion + an actual good album...there's just NO WAY you can f*** it up!
But somehow...both Mariah and Def Jam found a way to screw up everything they built up earlier in the year. The album has great songs. The overall product was even better than her last album. Songs like 'Migrate' 'Side Effects' 'I'm Still In Love With You' 'I'm That Chick and 'Cruise Control' were obvious huge hit singles, and they were even tracking her to end up beating the Beatles record with this album. But instead, Def Jam tried to focus on mimicking the original mimi era on the dot. They figured if they released a 2nd single ballad, it would become the anthem of the album just like 'We Belong Together'. 'Bye Bye' was released and the plan back fired completely. The song was one of the worst songs on the album, however from the beginning, even before 'Touch My Body' came out, Def Jam tried to hype it up as if it was going to be a career changing single. So when it was finally released, people knew this was no 'We Belong Together'.
Okay no big deal. One mis-step in an era that kicked off amazingly, and still has a lot of potential right? 'Bye Bye' flopped, but it's not too late. Rush-releasing a 3rd single to save an album has been done before, and it has worked miraculously. Rihanna did it after 'Shut Up and Drive' flopped, Nelly Furtado did it after 'Maneater' flopped, and Beyonce did it after 'Ring the Alarm' flopped. However, Mariah suddenly married Nick Cannon and that became the new focus of the era while 'Bye Bye' was flopping hard. Instead of Mariah releasing a 3rd single right away, they let the flop ride out while she was honeymooning.
There's an obvious #1 single on the album, and the name of that song is 'Migrate'. If the label had released 'Migrate' in may as a single and pretended 'Bye Bye' never happened, i'm willing to bet this era could've been saved. Instead, they waited til late June to finally decide that the third single was NOT going to be 'Migrate,' but a song called 'I'll Be Loving U Long Time'! 'I'll Be Loving You Long Time?' as a person who had bought the album and listened to it compulsively...i COULDN'T EVEN REMEMBER A SONG ON THE ALBUM CALLED THAT! I realized it was one of the two songs i always skipped (the other one ironically being BYE BYE). When i learned that 'I'll Be Loving U Long Time' was actually chosen as the third single, that's when i realized that Mariah obviously doesn't care about this era anymore. It really pissed me off and i knew that this song was a FLOP from the getgo and it would do nothing for her album sales! Why did Mariah and her label insist on releasing the TWO worst songs on the album BACK to BACK?
It just kills me how much potential this era had and it was the biggest screw up of the entire decade. Yeah the album got a #1 single, yeah the album wobbled passed 1 million in sales, and yeah Mariah's going on tour, but all this is a complete disappointment after 'The Emancipation of Mimi'. Instead of getting Emancipation Part 2, i feel like we got 'Charmbracelet' Part 2. It's so unfortunate because squared is probably Mariah's best album is since 'Butterfly'. What a waste. What a complete waste. RIP E=MC2. It's too late to do something now.
