Ummm...
Taylor Swift not only has one album in the top ten right now....SHE FREAKIN HAS TWO!!!!! She's a selling machine. I would've also checked to see what number Carrie's album was, but i didn't feel like scrolling my mouse button down that far.

I remember a few years back there use to be one girl dominating the charts with the others following in her wake. Though since about 06, there has been an It girl but the other girls have been up there with her, having a lot of success across the board. It's good to see. Competition is fun.

if Taylor Swift was on this poll, Carrie should certainly be on here. they are both country stars that have crossed over to Pop. Carrie had her time in 06/07, i'd have to agree with DJ that Taylor Swift is the bigger machine right now. This can't be Legendtina. When you made your poll last year on the "IT" girl, you told off all Carrie fans that said she was the "IT" girl. So either you can't remember your points, or this is a fake. I'm thinking the latter.

I didn't really think of Rihanna as this year's It Girl since this is kind of like her follow up year to her big year in 2007. And I don't think that much has changed in her status between last year and this year. (Whereas there was a huge change in her status between 2006 and 2007). You normally don't see someone become the It Girl on their "leftover" year. But then again, I cannot think of anyone else at the moment who is stronger

You are right...Miley Cyrus is this years 'CELEBRITY' it girl (kinda like how Paris, Lindsay, and Nicole were in the past). But as far as musician wise...she is not. Yeah she had a huge 371k opening...but top 40 usually neglects her (besides 'See You Again') and she hasn't really broken out of the disney shell yet. If were gonna call Miley Cyrus this years it girl, then Britney would be the it girl of 07 and probably 06/05/04.
I have to disagree...i think Rihanna's status has risen A LOT since last year. Umbrella was really her breakthrough (after we thought SOS was, lol). But after 'Shut Up and Drive' and the bland 'Hate that i Love You'...the Umbrella hype sort of died down in 07. Then she got things rolling again in 08 with three huge back to back hits in 'Don't Stop the Music,' 'Take a Bow,' and 'Disturbia'. It's as if those three singles weren't even on the same album as 'Umbrella'. The 2nd half of the 'Good Girl Gone Bad' era was much STRONGER than the first half, despite Umbrella being in the first half. So when she did it again with 'Don't Stop the Music'...that was sort of her official entrance into the it girl territory.
The same thing happened with Fergie in 06/07. Her album had already been out for a long while before she even became the 'It Girl'. 'Big Girls Don't Cry' was #1 a YEAR after her album came out. Even though 'London Bridge' and 'Fergalicious' were released in 06, we can very well say her big year was in 07 bc of 'Glamorous' 'Big Girls Don't Cry' and 'Clumsy' which all performed better than the first two singles.

It's as if those three singles weren't even on the same album as 'Umbrella'. They werent (not until the re-release), minus DSTM. Well yer right how she became huge after G, BGDC, and C but she was still bangin out hits with Fergalicious and LB, so really she had a successful era from start to finish (minus Finally but that was to be expected ), she just didnt have a large debut with sales, longevity was her best friend and BGDC, even though the other ones were successful.

I always find it funny when people get too lazy to type out an entire one word song. For example when you abbreviate 'Clumsy' into C...i just find it really funny.
