The answer for this in MY OPINION is Rihanna...here's why
She might have not had 'Umbrella' this year, but her hits from her current CD have not only crossed over into this year, but are continuing to go! The re-release was probably an amazing strategy because she's had back to back hits already this year with Don't Stop the Music and Take a Bow. Disturbia will take her through the end of the year. Then you have her album sales which are FINALLY catching up to her hit streak (her album has been in the top ten for weeks now). Plus Rihanna has gotten so much media attention, she's the it girl all the way. She's a shining star this year.
I already know a lot of you will vote for Leona Lewis...but please hold that mouse for one second. Leona has been sleeping on 'Bleeding Love' for almost 9 months now! It's freakin ridiculous how long her label let that song ride out until they finally released the follow up. By the time the third single comes around it will be 2009! Her album sales are alright, but she lacks in the fact that we don't know if her follow up will be a big top ten hit, and also in the fact that she doesn't really get media attention. She hasn't been a trend setter like Rihanna, she's just billed as another Mariah Carey...and quite frankly, Jessica Simpson will tell you straight up that's not always something good.

Rihannas a trend setter? LOL Shes been copying off past popular styles, thats not a trend setter. Her style was done just a few years ago when Pop rock and punk styles were in, and its still in.. and that hair has been done a 1000x over. Anyway, I chose Rihanna cause shes had more singles and time. And all of them have been hits! She definitely deserves it, and shes become of my favorite artists now. Id say Rihanna, then Jordin, then Natasha, then Leona.

I'd have to go with Rihanna. Even though I don't like her that much, pretty much everything she's put out has been a hit this year. She's definitely the current "It" girl.

Katy Perry brought a truly risky, and unique sound and song to the market.
I pick her.
Rihanna is just ehhh...she has good singles, but nothing amazing
Leona is just a good singer

if Taylor Swift was on this poll, Carrie should certainly be on here.
they are both country stars that have crossed over to Pop.

I don't think Katy should be considered - right now. She's had one huge single, but she's far from an 'it' girl. She has a huge hit, but if she can prove shes more than a 1-hit wonder, then maybe.
I was thinking Colbie Caillat had a possibility when "Bubbly" was sooo huge. Then "Realize" did well but not as good as Bubbly, and well, besides that - she's kind of boring IMO. But i think she had potential to be the It girl if she had a better personality iMO and had another hit.

I liked Realize too but she lacks that "buzz" that Leona, RiRi, and Taylor currently have.
