Well, you've also admitted to loving generic pop/rock And Scott's actually a lot more critical than me in a lot of ways, so don't be surprised if he doesn't like it that much.

What makes you say I'm more critical? I'm sure you're possible the most picky music fan I know lol. Anyway I'll definitely check it out. And who knows if I like it, I may try out other Country stuff.

Okay, I have a problem with this song. When it gets to the part where she goes: 'This love is difficult, but it's reeeeeeal.' I never hear the 'l' and I keep thinking she's saying "but it's *R E*" And it's messing with my head!

#2 on UK iTunes Does she have a chance at a number one single? (And it looks they got a diva trilogy going on iTunes with Kelly at #1, and Lady GaGa at #3)

No - Kelly is Number #1 in the Midweeks (OMGYAY ETC.), and with all her UK promo this week should maintain her lead over Taylor (who had all her promo last week.) Taylor will very likely be #2 this Sunday (which is amazing in itself) and may climb to #1 over time, but with the Official Comic Relief single by The Staurdays being released next week, and Poker Face steadily rising over time ( ) she has her work cut out. I really hope she reaches #1 at some point though.

I didn't realize this hit #2 on The Hot 100 Airplay. I think that is probably the most impressive stat (even more than #1 on Pop)

If you are #1 on pop, you are gonna be high on airplay

The previous pop #1s lately that didn't get urban/rhythmic support weren't that high on Hot 100 Airplay

Well that was the same as iTunes, but I wasn't sure how much it would sell physically, or is so the physical single dead now?

Pretty much - I think the Top 3 are all download only. The singles does still hold much more weight that in the US where it's utterly worthless, however due to the closure of Woolworths and Zavvi's due to the recession, there are far less physicals being sold than even a few months ago. It's sad.

Some commentary on British society and the American diva trilogy going on
-----------------------------
Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift & Lady GaGa: American girls bite back
In the wake of the Grammys, some people were getting all excited about the new British invasion of America. In particular, we have heard a lot about how British girls with authentic voices (like Duffy, Adele and Amy) and an idiosyncratic take on pop (eccentric originals like Lily Allen, Little Boots, Florence and The Machine) were bringing a more individual, creative and soulfully human quality to pop.
Well, the American girls just bit back, leaving the kind of perfectly formed dental imprint on the charts that serves to reminds us how this pop business is supposed to be done. The top three UK singles this week are by Kelly Clarkson (first American Idol winner with a very US power pop rocker 'My Life Would Suck Without You'), Taylor Swift (young country princess with identikit power pop ballad 'Love Story') and Lady GaGa (autotuned New York new Madonna with robo synth dance tune Poker Face).
Adding to the impression that this US invasion is not just an aberration, the top ten as a whole features eight American singles to two Brits. What is going on?
A few years back, American acts utterly dominated the UK singles charts, pushed by American centred record companies (which all the remaining multinationals effectively are, since British owned EMI is barely a major player anymore), with the implicit mandate to turn American produced talent into global franchises. It led to considerable controversy about the number of US records being playlisted on UK radio, with BBC Radio One coming in for particular criticism. Things seemed to shift back after that, and you could even argue that the recent success of British artists internationally has been a benefit of more actively nurturing home grown talent.
Although there has never been any official quota, the current Radio One A list is split 50/50 between British and American acts, which is probably fair enough. But it appears the kids who are actually spending their own money prefer the American ones.
There is a kind of perfect, plastic, escapist quality to these American girls. Perhaps, in trying times, that is what people want to hear, instead of the kookier, warts-and-all qualities of British pop. It's the invasion of the cheerleaders. I suppose things could be worse.

Taylor is a country artist, so it stays here. once she makes Country remixes for her songs, then her threads will go in Pop.

How is this doing on rhythmic? I noticed it was on the rhythmic promo disc for April. That usually doesn't mean that much, but Rhythmic is changing again and playing a lot more pop songs and I know Chicago Rhythmic has this in high rotation.

It's hovering around 260 plays on the Mediabase total panel. The lowest song on the R&R Rhythmic chart has 517 plays on the R&R panel and probably had around 590 plays last Monday on the Mediabase panel. 590-260=330 spins on the Mediabase panel away from charting on Billboard's. Needless to say, it's flopping.
