It fascinates me how this song is getting attention at pop while "Before It's Too Late" didn't.
On Pop: 57 51 MATCHBOX TWENTY These Hard Times 423 276 147 1.330
And as usual, I think mb20 will go at least top 10 on Hot AC.

This currently has the biggest bullet on the Hot AC chart.
I don't know about you, but I think mb20 should call it quits. Thier new material pretty much stinks, and Rob's solo work is excellent. I'm glad he's going solo again.
Anyways...

It's slowly climbing through the ranks on the Hot AC chart...

This is now #12 on Hot AC.
15 12 MATCHBOX TWENTY These Hard Times 1912 1789 123 8.432
matchbox twenty is currently in a 3-way tie with The Goo Goo Dolls and Sheryl Crow when it comes to top 10 hits on Hot AC, with 11 of them. This could make them the clear leader in that category soon.

^Really, what makes you say that?
While I agree that it's far from their best, it's a big improvement from "How Far We've Come".

It's boring and doesn't go anywhere. It's too slow and sweet for even HAC
How Far We've Come was actually not too shabby. I kind of liked that.

"How Far We've Come" was basically mb20 selling out to remain a pop chart staple. They knew that nobody ever talks about them anymore, so they had to make a Fall Out Boy/Panic! At the Disco type song to have any impact.
Nevertheless, I was happy to see a "90s" band get to #14 on the pop chart in 2007.

Doesn't remind me of anything they would do. It did not sound like an emo record to me. Even if they did copy them and sell out, its still a decent song

But PATD & FOB aren't really "Emo" with their sound & lyrics. LOL!

Even if they did copy them and sell out, its still a decent song What I meant is this: As you know, the softer late 90s acts like Goo Goo Dolls, mb20 and Shawn Mullens are really out of style. mb20 knew that they couldn't record another "3 Am" or "Bent" and get a pop hit out of it, so they went out of their vein with "How Far We've Come" and went top 20 with it (just really wasn't their style of music) The Goo Goo Dolls stayed true to themselves with "Before It's Too Late" and got ignored.

That's the way music works though. You keep up with the times or you get out. They stopped making 3 AM type songs a long time. And I think a poppish song like Bent isn't too far away from something like this. Plus, you know Rob is kind of a musical chameleon. He wouldn't have lasted this long if he hadn't kept trying out new styles. There's even another song on the GH that sounds kind of R&Bish.

^Which one is that? I remember "Can't Let you Go" was very 50s-leaning.
And look at Nickelback and 3 Doors Down, they're styles haven't changed and they've maintained success since the beginning of the decade. (more success than mb20 ever really had lol)

Yeah, I think it would have been that one. I haven't heard it in awhile. 3 Doors Down seem to be in kind of a down period right now. We'll see if they can really come back. And Nickelback seems to have gotten away with it (but you know how much flack they get ). But like you said, the Goo Goo Dolls didn't change, and look what happened.

This is now top 10 on Hot AC! This has really caught on with me recently.
12 9 MATCHBOX TWENTY These Hard Times 2164 2025 139 10.548
This puts matchbox twenty in a clear first place for top 10s in Hot AC history, with this being their 12th. This breaks what was a 3-way tie with the Goo Goo Dolls and Sheryl Crow.
