Edgeofaddiction requested this thread and its quite a good idea so ill expand on it.
Who do you stan for and why? We as human beings form emotional attachments and I think that rings true for the musicians we love and 'go hard' for.
Ill post mine later tonight but I want to hear from everyone else.

Kelegend Clarkson- Queen of Pop/Rock and undeniably one of the greatest vocalists of this generation. Her versatility across genres slays my soul and gives me life. Godney Spears- Pop Princess of sexy/dancey songs. She actually has an amazing voice (I love her breaths and sound effects) and she is an icon. Hold It Against Me still slays my life to this day. Jesusanna- RihLord is the QUEEN of dancey/techno beats. She may not be the best singer or dancer but girl sure knows how to give the audience what they want from her. Girl's got fire and charisma and I love her for it.
Fan of GaGa, Natalia Kills, Robyn...not important enough for me to list reasons.

Lady GaGa - The second I heard Poker Face was the moment I knew that I'd become a Lady GaGa fan. I was a borderline stan during The Fame era but The Fame Monster was what put it all into perspective for me and I became obsessed with her. I was fascinated by her visuals, I loved her hooks, she has a great voice and really has everything I want in a musician.
Britney Spears - I was a fan during her early days but really became a stan during her Blackout era. I loved the production on that album and I was just fascinated by everything that she did during that time period. I felt really bad about what ended up happening but once she released Womanizer, I knew that I was a stan for life.
Mariah Carey - I became a fan during the E=MC^2 era but was slightly disappointed with her follow up album. I had a feeling that she had some good songs early on in her career so I went searching and what I came across was a diverse vocally impeccable catalogue (I related to songs like Emotions, Make It Happen, Always Be My Baby, etc.) I also love her personality (she exudes tons of confidence yet is classy and smart about how she portrays herself).

I STAN FOR GOOD MUSIC. Sorry i do not stan for anybody. Same here, but in particular Kelly Clarkson. I just connected to her music and lyrics when I was a teenager and I still love her now because as an adult (sort of), I can respect her vocal ability and personality.

I know I'm late on this, but I hope I'm not too late. Nickelback - Nickelback was one of the first bands I ever liked. I still remember the first time I heard "Someday" and that was one of the moments where I really started to get into music. A few years later, when "Savin' Me" came out, I became a stan and have been one ever since. All The Right Reasons is the only high school yearbook I will ever need. Alter Bridge - A lot of people have lost faith in rock. The first thing I would do is show them a copy of ABIII and see if they are as blown away as I am. This band is everything I would want a band to be and then some. Their lyrical themes blow the competition out of the water, and Mark Tremonti's unique guitar skills go unmatched. Artists I used to stan for... Kid Rock - Remember 2008, when I was his #1 fan? So do I. I'm still a big fan but he will need to release something strong for me to become a stan again. Eminem - The Slim Shady LP will always be one of my favorite albums, and the hardcore antics of the Marshal Mathers LP will always make my jaw drop. But it's hard to stan for someone who is a shell of their former self. 3 Doors Down - I honestly don't know why I used to be so crazy about these guys. Pussycat Dolls - Back in tenth grade, people thought I was totally gay because of this. They'd probably think the same thing of my current love for Nicole's solo work.

I can't hide it. It has been, is, and always will be Britney. *sigh*... I think it's because I connect her with my childhood - she came along at a perfect time. She was my saving grace, lol. Plus, I admire the fact that she isn't pretentious and doesn't say anything bad about anyone. Oh and her music RAWKSSSSS!

The truth is... I don't stan for anyone. The reason why: I feel that a "stan" is such a negative label, one that I really do not wish to be associated with.
I do consider myself a big fan of Kate Voegele, but no way would I say I stan for her.

Britney Spears The woman raised me. I know it sounds foolish but from the first time I laid eyes on Britney, I kind of felt a connection. As I grew older, she grew older. She dealt with a lot of shit as did I. She had her breakdown right when I was dealing with my memories of being molested coming back. I had always signified with the woman. She has always been the constant reliable source in my life for inspiration. She never deterred for me. It sounds really foolish, and I could sit here and write continuous paragraphs about each and every event in life, but I don't feel the need to justify my unconditional love for Britney.
Cheryl Cole/Girls Aloud In a lot of ways I was an ironic stan for the first few months. I had always listened to Girls Aloud songs and never *got it*. It took Fight For This Love for me to *get it*. However, Cheryl's solo work always stands out to me. I didn't really share it with anyone but I had given my ex one last chance around the time FFTL came out. Me & LW had numerous talks about this. My ex was a really toxic individual and I felt I could save him. I took him into my home and tried to help him get clean but honestly it never worked and he eventually stole from me and went on his merry way. Its really sad watching someone you love so much go through what I watched my ex go through.
People always asked me why "The Flood" was such a monumental track for me. And honestly, it was the breakthrough. The lyrics resonated so deep that honestly, no amount of therapy got me out of the emotional rut I was in, but a few simple bars did. Many saw it as a song of despair and failed love, but much like Cheryl, I saw it as a song of hope. Hope that there will be someone out there who can love me like a flood. Constant and overpowering even my emotions. I sound like Taylor Swift right now so I'll stop lol
The other reason is "Promise This". Many interpret the song for what it is, Cheryl's ode to Derek Hough on her deathbed when she was dealing with malaria. I sort of interpreted that song differently. When my great grandma was put in a hospice about three weeks after the song came out, it just helped me deal with letting her go. "By the thread we're hanging on, in hope that you don't let go. If you ever leave me, know, I wanna go with you." Such profound lyrics, so simple but deep in its message. Oddly enough over a tranceish pop production. Who'dve known?
Other people I stan for: Miley Cyrus The Saturdays

The truth is... I don't stan for anyone. The reason why: I feel that a "stan" is such a negative label, one that I really do not wish to be associated with. I felt the same way too for a while - but, as I said, I can't pretend the interest of what she's doing in music AND in real life isn't there anymore! I think another identifier is how Brit struggled for a while and came back magnificently. People can identify with that on some level. I definetly did. So I don't think it's always about the music, I also think it's about the person behind the microphone and how they portrayed themselves throughout the years.

I stan for Miss Mariah Carey. All in all, I am normally a fan of everyone, with a few exceptions, whom I consider the biggest mistake this planet has ever given birth to:
