I got the idea for this thread from a feisty discussion that Jake and I were having in the Justin Moore thread. He claimed that the song was "touching," although I happen to disagree. These things are all a matter of personal opinion, as one song can do a whole lot for one person and nothing for the next. While I find myself throwing an elbow at most sad country songs (such as the one Jake likes), there are some that definitely have an effect on me. There are some that I don't dismiss as redneck nonsense. Kenny Chesney - Me And YouBefore he sang crappy beach music, Kenny was dealing with more serious themes. This song is about needing you partner, and really being in love with them. I guess technically it's a happy song, but at the same time it's very sad. Brad Paisley wasn't always a goofball. He was inspired to write this song when one of his friends was marrying a woman with a son. The song deals with a guy who takes on the duty of being a father to a boy when he didn't have to be, hence the title. The boy is now grown up and having a kid, and he hopes he can be half as good as his dad. So how about you guys?

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose noticed that country has gotten very... stupid these past few years. I've never been a HUGE fan of the genre, and the country artists I did like I liked for their pop stuff (Shania, Faith, LeAnn etc.), but country used to be a genre that people took seriously and the lyrics were more touching and serious, now it's all redneck shit and drinking and "sexy tractors" I have went from being neutral on country music to absolutely hating the genre.

I totally agree with you there. There are still some good country songs/artists out there, but honestly, I hate the stereotypical country songs like you mentioned. Country is one genre where the lyrics are important for me enjoying a song, as stupid redneck lyrics ruin a lot for me.

Country songs from the past decade that I liked...
1. I Hope You Dance 2. What Hurts The Most 3. Life Is A Highway (if that counts) 4. Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy) 5. I Need You by Le Ann Rimes (cheesy but I liked it lol) 6. Love Don't Live Here by Lady Antebellum 7. Cry by Faith Hill 8. You'll Think Of Me by Keith Urban (just okay I guess)
I think that's it...
