Well really this isn't a teen love story. She talks about living with the guy. So its a little more mature than high school dances and football games and hallways
After a few more listens, I like this a lot more as I suspected I would. and the last verse doesnt bother me as much lol

The lyrics are certainly different. This is totally an adult relationship. I love the lyrics a lot, they are remarkable.
The production, vocals and instrumental is typical Taylor. It is nothing to go crazy over, but it is what made her popular in the first place. I enjoy the song quite a bit as I mostly care about the lyrics. They are something I can relate to, and she has shown some growth in writing.
I am very excited to see what the rest of the album holds.

The song still registers as meh for me.
There are better songs on TS and Fearless.

It was #1 at 914pm, after being on iTunes for 5 hours.
Debuting at #1 on the Hot 100? Me thinks so

And Will needs to grow up at PMB and just learn to ignore the Carrie Underwood stans.
His argument with Stephen is downright annoying, embarassing and pathetic.
*waits for him to post for the first time in 4 months responding to me*

The melody is very subtle, which might be okay for the verses to build up to the chorus. but the chorus doesn't deliver. People were saying she's trying to be more "country", but I don't think less melodic necessarily equals more "country". Production wise, it seems like a typical album track from her - but without a strong chorus hook. I do kind of like the melody introduced as sort of a coda towards the end though. ("Hold on..")

Out on iTunes now. And it's frickin awesome. I eagerly await Kanye's tweet about it. Cause he tweets about everything. Are we seeing a new iTunes trend? Release songs the day they leak, rather than waiting until like Tuesday or the planned release date?

If The Best Damn Blog is to be believed, the 5 hours it took to climb to #1 on iTunes is apparently the fastest ascent in iTunes history, and by a huge margin. The previous record was 16 hours. I know what you're thinking, "What song had that 16 hour mark? One of the oodles of hit singles by Lady GaGa, maybe Heartless by Kanye?" Nope. Today Was A Fairytale Does she ever write songs that don't have to do with teen love stories Tied Together With a Smile (a great, underrated song), Breathe, Change, Fifteen, The Best Day, The Outside, A Place in this World, Invisible and you could probably make a case for Mary's Song (which might be my favorite song of hers).

Britney's "3" also took 16 hours to go to #1.

I'd have mixed opinions about this going to #1. It sucks that You Belong To Me couldn't do it.
But this song doesn't "seem" like a #1 to me. Almost seems like a make-up #1, kind of like how Britney, Pink, Avril, Kelly, etc later got #1s in their career/more #1s for songs that didn't really "seem" like #1s.
So I guess it would be nice for this to be a makeup #1 for Taylor at least? And really, it'd be nice to see a country song at #1 since we've had like 3 close calls already in recent times (Today Was A Fairytale, You Belong To Me, Need You Now)
As for its chances, 3 had a full week, and it didn't have a big margin the week it went #1. And Today Was A Fairytale, made #2. So I don't know...

I don't think this will debut at #1. Her pop bars look exactly what Britney's did with "3" and that sold 260K.

She never released "Breathe", therefore her best song will never reach #1.

I hope this hits #1 just so Taylor can get a Hot 100 #1, but then on the other hand I don't because this is by far her worst single ever (other than "Fifteen")

As for its chances, 3 had a full week, and it didn't have a big margin the week it went #1. What? 3 had a huge margin between it and the #2 song on iTunes when it was first released. The lead only started to decrease/bridge together during the weekend, but during the week it had a huge lead over the #2 song. Which is why 3's opening week ended up being the biggest sales week on the Hot 100 Digital chart since the week Boom Boom Pow was released. In terms of audience impressions 3 also had a massive lead over the #2 song on the Hot 100 as well. 3 had 280 impressions while the nearest song to it on the Hot 100 only ended up accumulating 240 impressions. It will be interesting to see how much Taylor will end up selling and if she breaks her own record. It seems like the digital market has exploded (again) this year with Eminem, Taylor, and Katy Perry all selling boatloads out for their first singles even when the songs aren't their best in terms of quality. It seems like hype is what is sending these songs to #1 and getting them these huge sales amounts out of the gate. I don't think this will debut at #1. Her pop bars look exactly what Britney's did with "3" and that sold 260K. The market has expanded a lot since last year though. This years 260k very well could end up being like 320k.
