Strange how the format with arguably the most conservative audience is becoming liberal to the point that anything with the slightest twang or acoustic guitar can get played on there. For example, I checked one of our country stations and found: KID ROCK Half Your Age (this could be twangy for all I know, but considering it's Kid Rock it's probably more rock-y) CITY AND COLOUR Sleeping Sickness NICKELBACK This Afternoon TREWS Man Of Two Minds DANKO JONES Take Me Home MATT MAYS/EL TORPEDO Tall Trees SNOOP DOGG My Medicine DEF LEPPARD Nine Lives f/Tim McGraw KID ROCK Only God Knows Why And for the "arguable but I consider them Southern rock" category: LYNYRD SKYNYRD Gimme Three Steps GEORGIA SATELLITES Keep Your Hands To Yourself MOLLY HATCHET Flirtin' With Disaster Now I know you might not know most of these songs, but really, a lot of them aren't country at all. I mean, Snoop Dogg? I don't care if it name-checks Johnny Cash; it is not country! They also once played Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive". Boy, can't wait to grab the ol' cowboy hat and fiddle to "Wanted Dead or Alive"...

I agree with you 100% here. These songs are NOT country, but then again neither is Taylor Swfit.
The Kid Rock song is twangy, but it says "bitch" in it and talks about strippers and stuff so it's not really "suitable" for country radio.

TAYLOR SWIFT IS TOO COUNTRY!
i hate all these cross-over artists these days that cross to country though. but country music is becoming more and more pop and rock sounding.
but seriously how many classical country artists are still out there? Alan Jackson and George Strait are the only 2 that are still producing hits. and some of their songs are VERY contemporary. like Alan Jackson's "Good Time" and George Striat's "I Saw God Today" and those songs did better than their more classical songs.
Country music is NOT what it was 10 years ago and it will never go back.

Country Music will never be as great as it was in the 90's ...when Garth Brooks ruled it.

Garth Brooks... ew *gasp" ....AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A COUNTRY FAN?! woahhhh, Garth Brooks is like my all-time country hero. I think i'm just such a huge fan of his that I can't even believe that anyone wouldn't be. Garth is the one who paved the way for entertainers like Urban & Chesney. What a performer, songwriter and vocalist. A living country legend...and i'm sooo ready for a comeback. (another one) haha.

I think he bribed and payed stations to play "More Than a Memory", which debuted at #1 on the country chart last year.

exactly. the biggest case of payola in history. especially since the next week he fell to #8 and then he could never make it back to #1 thanks to the wonderful "So Small" by Carrie but it also screwed up the whole chart for months. it was just a disaster. i actually like that song ("More Than A Memory") but i could not like it at the time because it was just a horrible thing to do. it made the Country chart look like the Billboard Hot 100 and it lost all credibility.

i typically dont think so but it was BLATANTLY OBVIOUS that he was paying stations to play his song and debut it at #1.

Or maybe they were excited for it to be released?
