R&B singer Chris Brown booked on suspicion of making felony criminal threats
[Updated 8:17 p.m.] R&B singer Chris Brown has been booked tonight on suspicion of making felony criminal threats in connection with an incident involving his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna, according to Los Angeles Police Department sources familiar with the case.
Brown was being booked at the Wilshire Division station and is expected to post $50,000 bail, sources said.
Los Angeles police said earlier they planned to detain Chris Brown for questioning on an alleged domestic violence assault.
[Updated 7:25 p.m.] Brown arrived at the Wilshire Division police station about 7:15 p.m., accompanied by his attorney Mark Geragos and Geragos' investigator, Scott Ross. The pair drove into a parking lot behind the police station on Venice Boulevard just east of La Brea Avenue in a black Cadillac Escalade. They entered through a back door where a posted sign read “authorized personnel only.” Police are expected to release a statement later this evening
Both Brown and Rihanna canceled their performances at tonight's Grammy Awards.
The alleged incident was reported about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Hancock Park.
Brown and Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, were apparently in a car together and got into an argument on North June Street, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement. Brown stopped the car, the two got out, and the argument escalated, according to police.
A witness called 911, but Brown was gone when officers arrived at the scene. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker, according to police.
Brown and Rihanna had appeared together Saturday night at Clive Davis’s pre-Grammy gala in Beverly Hills.
Shortly before the Grammy show began at 5 p.m. at Staples Center, Grammy officials issued a statement saying, "We have just been informed Rihanna will not be attending tonight’s 51st Grammy Awards. Rihanna will not be performing. We are sorry to see she is unable to join us this evening.”
A publicist for the Barbados-born star, who sold more digital song downloads than any other in 2008 with nearly 10 million tracks, said Sunday night, “Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support.”
Her song “Disturbia,” which she’d been scheduled to perform at the ceremony, was the sixth best-selling digital track of the year. She was replaced by veteran soul singer Al Green, who was accompanied by country singer-guitarist Keith Urban.
Brown’s record label spokesman did not respond to The Times’ request for comment. His whereabouts were unknown as the Grammy show began. Brown finished 2008 as the fourth-best-selling artist in the digital realm, posting 6.8 million tracks sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

No problem. I think here's another smoking gun. The reports say that Chris was driving in the car with the victim last night. And here's Chris and Rihanna leaving Clive's party last night, so...

I really liked Al Green and JTs performance, Kid Rocks was pretty good, JB and Stevie Wonder was pretty good! I also liked Miley and Taylors! J Hud made me cry a lot. Katy was HORRIBLE! She sings great acoustic or slow songs but IKAG comes out really bad! Why not get someone up there that deserves it!?! I also really liked Sugarlands performance!

PS - Pop vocal performance to Adele for Chasing Pavements? IMO It should have gone to Duffy, Leona, or Sarah, not Chasing Pavements.. nice song and all but no where near top vocals.

The awards were HORRIBLE. I watched Desperate Housewives instead.
I liked Miley and Taylors performance. Good shit. Kid Rock killed it. The winners all sucked but Jennifer Hudson. Uh what else... Leona deserved Female Pop. John Mayer can suck it.

Interesting article about the shuffling around and the order Chris and Rihanna were supposed to go in
Late absences of Brown, Rihanna cause shuffling
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The last-minute absences of scheduled performers and nominees Chris Brown and Rihanna prompted some fast reshuffling at Sunday night's Grammy telecast, including a hastily put together ensemble performance by Justin Timberlake, Boyz II Men, Al Green and Keith Urban.
Brown, who was both a nominee and a scheduled performer, was being investigated for allegedly assaulting an unidentified woman the night before the show. He turned himself in to authorities as the show was being broadcast and was briefly held before posting $50,000 bail Sunday night, jail records showed.
Rihanna's whereabouts weren't immediately known.
"Rihanna is well," her publicist said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that didn't elaborate.
Brown and Rihanna are dating and were both multiple Grammy nominees.
Rihanna was set to be the second performer on Sunday night's CBS show, singing "Live Your Life" and "Disturbia."
Instead, the ensemble performance went on after an awkward, impromptu-sounding introduction by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who had been scheduled to introduce Rihanna.
Brown was scheduled as the evening's fifth performer, singing "Forever," but his performance was scratched.
LL Cool J, who had been scheduled to introduce Brown, instead joined Jay Mohr in introducing Sugarland and Adele.
Recording Academy chairman Neil Portnow said he found out three hours before the telecast that Rihanna would not be appearing.
"There's that minute of anxiety, `OK, what are we going to do?', but that passes very quickly," he said backstage after the show.
"We're live television and the Grammys have a history of 50 years of putting on these great performances," Portnow said. "Things happen, sometimes things change and you have to be nimble and quick on your feet."
Portnow declined to comment on Brown's circumstances, but said he hoped the situation wouldn't overshadow the 51st annual Grammy Awards.
"Musicians are like everyone else, they have their trials and tribulations," he said. "It's not something I want to be judgmental about."
AP Entertainment Writer Sandy Cohen and AP Music Writer Nekesa Mumbi Moody contributed to this report.

Yeah, the performance flowed well. But I think I agree a bit with them saying The Rock's impromptu intro was a little awkward ;D

Now they're saying there was no weapon but that he bit her? --- Law enforcement sources tell us even though the police report in the Chris Brown arrest refers to assault with a deadly weapon, there was no weapon involved in the alleged attack. The police report cites Penal Code Section 245 -- Assault with a Deadly Weapon. However, we're told there was no weapon involved. We had been hearing there was an umbrella in the car -- which would have been the most ironic thing ever -- but again... no weapon is alleged. By the way, a persons foot or other body part can be considered a deadly weapon depending on the circumstances. One law enforcement source who has been dead-on so far claims Rihanna suffered concussions and bite marks.
