As expected, MTV Networks' two-hour Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, airing on 38 networks tonight beginning at 8/7c, is shaping up to be the entertainment event of the new decade. The latest list of celebs from music, TV, film, politics and sports who've signed on reads like a who's who of pop culture. Among those taking part are Madonna (performing from New York, where Haitian native Wyclef Jean will be emceeing), President Clinton, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Muhammad Ali, Leonardo DiCapprio, Tom Hanks and Robert Pattinson.
Madge is only the latest performer to join the already impressive lineup. Also scheduled to perform from New York are host Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira and Sting. The West Coast lineup, hosted by George Clooney will feature performances by Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder and a few Music City favorites, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow. Urban, Rock and Crow will perform together.
In addition to performance from New York and LA, Beyonce and others will perform live from London. Also from London will be Coldplay and another group performance, this time featuring U2's Bono and The Edge, alongside Jay-Z and Rihanna.
In between the musical performances, celebs like Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jon Stewart, Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Samuel L. Jackson and more than 100 of the biggest names in film, television and music will also take part.
When I reported on the event last week, it was in the early planning stages and little was confirmed. As previously announced, Jean and Clooney will be joined via satellite by Anderson Cooper, who will be reporting life from Haiti. Joining the initial 11 networks: MTV, VH1, CMT, CNN, BET, HBO, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and The CW are Bravo, Centric, Comedy Central, CNN en Espanol, Current TV, Discovery Health, E! Entertainment, EPIX, Fuse, G4, GMC, HBO Latino, MLB Network, National Geographic Channel, Oxygen, Palladia, PBS, Planet Green, TNT, Showtime, SOAPnet, Style Network and TV One as well as the Canadian networks CBC Television, CTV, Global Television and MuchMusic. This brings the total of US and Canadian networks airing the special event to an astounding 38, not counting several MTV International participants, as well as BET International, CNN International and National Geographic's global networks.
As if that weren't enough to give the event a truly global feel, the two-hour special will be live streamed online across sites including YouTube, Hulu, MySpace, Fancast, AOL, MSN.com, Yahoo, Bing.com, BET.com, CNN.com, MTV.com, VH1.com, and Rhapsody as well as on mobile devices via Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and FloTV.
Hope for Haiti Now will be available to all terrestrial radio stations around the globe and SIRIUS XM Radio as a one time only radio broadcast via the MTV Radio Network and Westwood One.
Hope for Haiti Now will begin accepting donations at 12PM/11AM Central Friday, January 22

Taylor, Beyonce, and Christina should be ashamed of them selves. Taylor wears WHITE while performing!!!!!!!!!! everyone else wears black or dark colored clothing. Beyonce sang "Halo"....... "Haiti i can see your halo" Crusty sings her new song, while everyone else performs covers (except Bey)

i liked Madonna's performance. Beyonce's was ridiculous as usual (I think everyone knows the "Haiti I can see your halo" thing by now), and Christina - She's an amazing vocalist but it wasn't anything special. Like It was a great performance but its not like its something new for her to do a great performance of a ballad.

I think Beyonce's stripped down version of Halo only supports what I've been saying too in the past about how Already Gone and Halo are so different contrary to some opinions.
Already Gone has much more emotional chords that are only emphasized when broken down. And I like Halo, but it's a different kind of song, and it's chords are meant to be used for more dramatic effect. And stripped down and for an event like this, I'm not getting an emotional feel of the song, even though that's what she was aiming for.

Oh nevermind, I saw the performance. It's on an upright piano and Chris Martin is playing it Figures

I loved Matt Morris accompanying JT on Hallelujah. It was beautiful their harmonizing. Awesome of Justin to get his artist this kind of exposure.

I liked Justin's Hallelujah surprisingly. I didn't think I would. But I don't know how I felt about Matt's harmonies. But it's cool that he was able to get exposure like this. Question is, will audiences see Matt as his own artist? Or will they think he was just a random backup singer to help Justin out?
